Thoughts on the ending (compiled after lots of tears, a few days worth of processing my sadness over the end of this show and between a stream of Insta edits of the show to cope)
1. I'm so appreciative they did not undo Yi Chan's deafness. He led a fulfilling life inspite of his deafness in the original timeline. His resilience and optimism about life were a core part of his personality that shone through.
2. We need scenes of CA with YC after his accident! That would be such an emotional linchpin moment in their relationship!
3. Why did CA's mom have to leave? What happened to Cheong Ah in the original timeline? Did her father never find out about how she was being treated?
4.How is SK's life in the present? (The writers have left enough crumbs for us to figure this one out, so I'm not very upset this one wasn't put into scenes)
5. I don't mind EG's family being chaebols in the new timeline. However, this new future raises a lot of questions for which the show has not provided answers, and erases away the foundational moments emotional depth of EG's family bonds without replacing them with new ones.
• What was EG's childhood and life like in this new, high-money future? What kind of parents were CA and YC. We really needed family moments between them.
• What is the new Eun Ho like?
• Does EG still learn the guitar from Mr Viva in this new reality? How?
• How did YC and CA select EG's name? How could CA forget her friend and tutor who even helped her get free from her horrible step-tutor! I wish they had shown that the parents remember their friend EG and named their baby after him, even thoough they eventually forgot his face.
• The way they wrote the new future, the conflict between YC and EG over music was completely erased instead of being resolved. We were robbed of a sincere heartfelt connversation between father and son.
My headcanon and ideal ending:
EY and EG both grew up in the states, or atleast EG spent a good part of his childhood there. From what chairwoman CA said when she got out of her car, doesn't seem like she lives in Korea all the time. Maybe YC and her spent a lot of time in the US after their studies.
Because of his improved relationship with SK, and SK's better relationship with herself and her husband, maybe they all live in the US too (which is why their old new house in Korea belongs to somebody else and EY's Korean number does not exist).
If both families were in the US, maybe CA and SK became good friends again and maybe that is how EG and Mr Viva met. (Maybe EG still got bullied at school in the US? For being a CODA or due to racism?)
CA has a good relationship with her dad, but YC and her are still living off their own merit and be low-key because they want to. YC is not working at Jinsung but has a well paying job or a business of his own thanks to his college education. He was not averse to music but no longer had a very strong involvement with it because he couldnt listen to it. He is still in touch with his friends ocassionally and happy. Because EG never told him about it, he never knew his son was into music and how serious he was. That was what the fight was all about. That is why he kept pushing him to be good in academics. Once EG is back from the future, they have a real conversation about their argument and understand each other better. Then YC himself puts EG in touch with MJ entertainment, EG talks about his passion with his grandpa as well, and we still have the final Spine 9 show. YC and CA are there as family at Jinsung's event and to cheer for their son, YC is not there as the director.
Inspite of the ending having its flaws, this show is still a 10/10 gem which will continue to twinkle and make my life magical for a long time! Shining, Higher and Magic Castle play on repeat on my Spotify and never fail to lift my mood! All of the music is exceptional and the casting was particularly impeccable as well. No one else could have brought these characters to life better than them. I'm going to miss their antics and their heartwarming love for each other! Viva la vida ✨️🍉
This may be a bit far-fetched, but what if Yi Chan's accident happens in Chung Ah's house?
yeah that's my theory too : Maybe Yi Chan loses his hearing while trying to protect CA in a fight with her stepmom. The world of hurt between CA and the Jinsung family would then be so much it makes sense she'd completely cut them off🤔
Replacing her meds with candy was such an ick moment for me. I could overlook all that talk about being a replacement…
This decision was so out of place and unbelievable for EG that I choose to tell myself he just filled the half empty bottle of meds with star candy rather than replace it all. If EY used the meds, it's safe to say it is not a new bottle filled to the top with pills. And EG said something along the lines of "I hope you'll choose me over your meds SOMETIMES. I want to be your best friend".
Episode 13 took an interesting turn when Eun Gyeol found himself in a situation that left him utterly perplexed.…
i agree it was so out of character for EG who is generally so perceptive! the way it was written, like you said, he was purposefully dumbed down. and for what? they find out at the end anyway. This stole their agency.
Wouldn't it be extra special if the incomplete composition that Mr Viva asked child Eun Gyeol to complete in order to get the guitar were written by young Yi Chan before he lost his hearing? Maybe that's the reason it is incomplete? Even in the original timeline, it is likely that Mr Viva was a supporter of Fake First Love Memory Makers given two of its Hun Kyul and Dong Jin were his mentees!
Once EG is back to the Future, I imagine EG playing his completed song to Yi Chan / making him read the music and Yi Chan's reaction would be priceless🥺 Now I really want this to manifest!
The manager who was at the wine festival, the one who looked for a back up singer for YRJ, the one who is working for Seo Joon to sabotage YRJ, he clearly knows it is Mok Ha singing for YRJ. I'm afraid this ghost singing is going to backfire on them.
While I still enjoy this drama, I feel that it has so much missed potential of stories and character-exploring…
I cometely agree with all your points and enjoyed reading your ideas on what else we are missing out on. What were the other thoughts you had for the storylines?
