we see from the main character pov, not the deity (or death/God, we don't know what it is) so we have limited knowledge but the deity wanted to give him another chance, he wanted him to go back in reality after a year. he created the game to help him help. but it didn't work because as soon as he was back he only wanted to go back and ended up killing himself again.
Why did the deity create the game to help him ? we don't know, and I think it's best we dont. he remains a mysterious character. oh and he did stay there, after the talk with the deity he got to stay there and live happily. so ig it did work, not in the way it was intended to tho
