I can understand that a production company wants to protect itself against plagiarism charges. That doesn't mean they should go off on a complete tangent, and contradict the original work. There is a reason why the novel had a fan base, and the viewers can spot the holes in the plot.

Shen was self-absorbed. He had some interest in Young Liang, but didn't make a plan.

He could have kept his LYL intact, and ask for the budget for episode 25 when they were in production.

The ending, as written in Discussions had nothing objectionable. It was deleted by the Director. He wanted to make a SE.

There was no budget money to hire the main actors for a final wrap-up, or to hire a production crew. Plus the NRTA review process!

Tencent would have released ep 25 if it was filmed. Director took his own initiative when making the drama. He didn't read the book material, and didn't ask for input in preproduction planning. The authors have to put some clause in the purchase contract, to protect or waive the intellectual property rights.

Just a thought! When Shen first met Young Liang at the opera house, was he scouting for a valet to eventually replace Yuwen as the family caretaker? He would also need someone to run Haidong empire. Why did he have Liang's photo in his book? He seemed impressed with the young poor boy's dedication and hard work.

Shen should have implemented plans then, to help Li and his sister with education and finances, instead of letting the boy fall into degradation and despair. We will never know the real truth because Shen was not a communicative guy. He was magnanimous to some degree, but judgmental.

😆😆😆

I kept watching it for Gao Weiguang and Ouyang Nana, and their hair and wardrobe.

If anyone wants a good cry, they can watch the final scene in the ocean.

The stairs might have been carpeted. 🤣🤣🤣 i think it looked green like the walls.

They had two bedrooms upstairs, too. She must have given Tao, the night off.

It feels as if he was the filler, to build up the drama length. They could have cut his dialog by 20%.

LOL I guess Situ has no option now, but to live without Shen.

If Shen was 1,000 years' old and tired of the vampire life, I would have accepted the ending. It seems he was only 100 years' old, and a vampire for nine decades, and he now had a companion to continue the journey, I couldn't see the drama ending.

Nana and Vengo did an amazing acting job on this drama.

They had chemistry, and lots of hugs. LOL

I don't get it why Director and Screenwriter would decide to rewrite the ending. Did they kill off Shen, so they would not have to make Season 2? Very rare that a Cdrama even gets a Season 2.

His death is 50-50. LOL

The final scene in episode 24 between Mr Shen and Mi Lan had me in tears. The subs were not 100%, so I will have to rewatch it again. Amazing performances by Gao Wei Guang and Ouyang Nana! I am glad Tencent finally released the drama after almost three years. Drama gets 8.0. The 2.0 deduction is for some extraneous subplotting.
