I wanted to check out this drama, but the male lead’s visuals are seriously not it. Honestly, I don’t think I’m missing much anyway people have said this drama is Islamophobic.
The movie has a lot of questionable elements. It’s very dark, heavy, and sexual, with many scenes that honestly felt excessive or unnecessary. It reminded me a lot of The Handmaiden in terms of the sexual content, which often felt over the top. Unfortunately, the film also gave off a strong sense of being made for the male gaze, which was frustrating because the story itself had so much potential. It felt like such a good plot was partially wasted because of that choice. That being said, the film is still stunning in many ways. The cinematography is beautiful, the atmosphere is intense, and the performances are excellent. The ending especially left a strong impression, tying everything together in a way that felt both emotional and powerful. Personally, I’d give it a 7/10. I think it deserves more credit than it gets, but I can also understand why some people don’t like it. It’s one of those films that really splits opinions you’ll either connect with it or find it off-putting. That’s why I’d say don’t rely too much on the ratings; it’s a movie you need to experience yourself to know whether it’s a hit or a miss for you.
I’m so confused why this actress keeps taking romance roles when she never does kiss scenes. She always picks the best plots with so much tension but it just ends up going nowhere. I heard she’s not comfortable being touched by male co-stars which is fine, but if that’s the case why keep choosing romances, especially ones that originally had kiss scenes in the novel? A kiss would’ve made The Seven Relics of Ill Omen perfect and even in The Derailment it was obvious the story needed one but didn’t happen because of her. No hate, but her acting still needs work sometimes she looks soulless like she’s just staring, though her crying scenes are good.
