He is there to please our eyes...haha I can already guess that he does indeed have his purpose, I believe the novel can present his purpose better. Because he is #1 scholar and eventually gets his position in the royal, and he must have played his part too. But I guess the drama got censored too much, they had to pick among scenes and eventually had to sacrificed his parts :(
