Agreed that diliraba's small changes in acting are done well in her roles, i went back to ep 2 and it's def better than ep 1. Diliraba might be the only reason to continue though- her cuteness is so natural! I might get back to it when it's done or at least most eps are out so I can see if her character maintains the strong persona or if they went down the path I predict of ML unnecessarily saving the FL. Or maybe I'll try it later if I can't find anything to watch lol.

Yeah, doesn't she show up on ep 2 to declare that? oh well, I'm not interested to continue watching. Maybe if i get a glimpse of a really good edit I might return lol

I get the direct killing but 2ML was using her for the longest time and instigated and creating the oppertunity for that death. He was playing 2 faces with her, but she still sides with him, which is what didn't make sense. Hate them both rather than picking one over the other, you know?

I just feel that in a scenario where my lover and my BFF were both involved, I'd hate them both, not just the lover, you know? Also, wasn't the killing with the grandad also instigated b/c ML's own brother was killed?

I'm sure she's supposed to be a clever girl but I just don't think they did justice to sell that concept early enough and so I already expect that she'll end up getting dumbed down in certain situations in the future. Hope not for the viewer's sake but I'm not here for it, especially since I expected a more serious take and don't see the balance of the comedy with the darker undertones. Comedy and dark plots can be done well, but here it seems like a mash of two different genres rather than a complimentary blend. Obviously, this is only my opinion of the pilot episode and sure it'll develop the characters gradually, but from my view if the pilot episode doesn't lay down the groundwork well enough in plot, characters or production, that tends to sum up the future of the series. Like they showed a gruesome past of FL but she has no emotions at even that age, so you can't expect that she was deeply attached to what happened (unless she's a sociopath or extremely skilled at hiding emotions at that age). If they had shown FL acting silly and then cut to a scene to show her true persona when she's alone or something then the contrast would've caught more interest in continuing the series, but they just wait it out to 'surprise' the viewers of what they already are expecting. To me it seemed unnecessary to hide her smarts and more of a delay tactic to get people to continue watching the show to see if it actually changes as they progress.

faccts. I feel it's common for writers to take well written novels and totally warp the characters to their own liking - like in Siege in the Fog, the strong and cold FL is turned into a powerless wishy washy character. The development didn't even make sense for me to continue watching it.

And again, agreed that the massacre didn't even display any emotions to place groundwork for her supposed revenge. She doesn't seem like someone who just witnessed a brutal killing at a young age and had her entire clan wiped away and her imprisoned on an island for 10 years by her killers. TBH she looks like a sociopath at that point which would've been an interesting twist if it were true. And yeah the Marquis doesn't seem worthy (actually a common thing in most Cdramas i've seen, the kings/male rulers are always good for nothings that need to be spoon fed and can't even control their children. Queens, however tend to be either super sweet or vicious but strong rulers.)

Agreed. Sometimes her characters are also done really well and other times it's not a good fit. Lately she's been doing a lot of tough/strong characters (general, pirate, prosecutor etc.). I think she can really act well though, her cute and strong character in Flame's Daughter and The King's Woman showed she can play strong characters, but getting a good plot is always tricky.

lol only ep 1 and i was expecting that she was really just pretending but from the way c dramas progress nowadays the probability that she will wind up just like a goofy girl is high, especially when she's in love. Though diliraba's past dramas tended to maintain her character somewhat I'm not not convinced to continue watching and tbh the pilot episode didn't catch my interest. Honestly a let down probably because I had high expectations with the cast and plot.

omg Goodbye My Princess was amazing! the acting, emotions, and depth! I just didn't like the ending and how she continued to side with 2ML knowing that he was involved but completely rejected ML and blamed him for everything. I'm planning on watching it again tho cause most viewers blamed him too so maybe I missed something.

tbh i noticed most c dramas nowadays do this. They always bring in "strong" FLs and then extinguish all their personality and skills. But the fact that her personality changed that drastically from a child that doesn't blink at a massacre to a goofy girl in adulthood?

I didn't even make it past ep 1 lol . I di think cdramas for most historical ones at least, nowadays they're rinsing and repeating old tropes and plots. Sad cause I used to love watching them but now most dramas are the same plot, same characters, same "plot twist" etc.

she doesn't need saving right now maybe, but I'm just predicting that's the path that will occur like it usually does when they take a serious plot and try to add a "fiesty strong" FL. Writers tend to reverse the character development nowadays for FLs
