So after that crazy end of episode 4, maybe Aoi is the substitute for her mother who is the real Mitsuki, like I think since last episode, she has something to do with Shu's parents death or is someone wanted by the SOS or both and that is why she leave years ago with Aoi. And Aoi shot Joi because her mother told her the story, that he's dangerous or idk. Or it's Chikage the real Mitsuki. It's why she's so into Shu's life since she saw the article on Aoi's computer.
My thoughts after episode 3: I think her mother is the one working for a terrorist organization, that is why she was working so much when Mitsuki was a child. She's now sick, she told Mitsuki the truth about her job, and said that someone wanted to kill her so she have to get ride of that person before he kill her. And Mitsuki care about her mother, she's the only person she have, so she was ready to kill him. That person is Joi. And I think Joi and the mother had a little something together, the way he react when he saw Mitsuki's photo, maybe she's his daughter. Or he thinks. Aoi changed her name because he have to change identity to not be found. And maybe that is why her mother and her disappeared years ago when Shu was a child. She was in danger because of her job.
Or Joi remembered when he saw Mitsuki's photo, that she's Shu's friend from years ago, so he was reluctant to kill her at first.
