Expecting kissing in a series set in the Tang Dynasty is unrealistic. In that time, a man who respected a woman would refrain from such actions until marriage. Additionally, a man could not be in the same room as a woman unless another woman was present. Glances, smiles, seemingly unintentional hand touches... That was the language of love at that time.
