[The drama] seems like a cartoon, but the more you look at it, the more it will feel like reality. So it was fun, and I thought I’d be able to do a good job in it.”

Well, this is based on a novel and it was going to be a movie but the director thought that 2 hours wasnt enough to tell the story that's why they decided to make a tv series. Im pretty sure that 8 hours is enough to tell the story.
