they shouldve got married after they met again and she found out he was blind!!
The guy lied to her about getting married. I would assume he did this to let her move on so as not to burden her with him being blind. It was mentioned in the river scene where his ashes were being spread that he got married AFTER she did so that's why I can say that she lied during that reunion scene.
