Because she saw that her brother was suffering so much by not being honest. He had to pretend everyday to go to work, waking up early, going to the subway, travelling to Seoul just because he did not want his parents to know. He quit partly because he was tired and just wanted to rest for a bit. Ki-jeong, I think understood this and she could not watch her brother suffer more..So she did what she could and just told their parents what her brother was so afraid to do.
