Eunjoo, samdal bestfriend also has unrequited love for Yongpil.
Samdal tries her best to have second with yongpil, while he still busy with his problems.
Samdal mom was dead because of yongpil dad (both are pure friends since childhood), so her dad resent whole yongpil family (especially yongpil dad) and ask him to breakup with samdal.
Yongpil goes to live in some other place and tries to move on with his life, got a successful carrer and also tries to find himself a partner, despite still being in love with samdal. Goes through 4 relationships (we don't have idea, what qualities in those girls attracted him to say yes to relationship), but all failed because all those girls are losers.

It's crystal clear he doesn't care what kind of life his dad is living all these years. If he showed even one ounce of interest, many problems would've solved long ago.
Yongpil is just as selfish as dad, cares about only what he wants. He will behave even worse than his dad, if something happens to samdal.
It will be a classic love story, if samdal cameback with an intention to get back with him after trying to move on from yongpil as far as 4 failed relationship attempts. But that's not the case.
Its not even about hung up on lost love. The way writers tried to justify it by saying yongdo himself refuse to move on and prisoned himself in a bubble. People call it true love, but for me its just selfish, obsessive love.
10 years fast forward together as a couple, still they love each other as their intial days then its true love and there are some other forms too but what they showed in this drama is definitely not true love.
All these years he even didn't try to sort out issues with his dad. He only tried after samdal cameback and smells a chance with her again. Clearly he loves samdal more than his dad.
But they tried to present, he is a caring son, hurting by his dad for 8 years. Yeah dad is a big villain. Sometimes dads too need their sons help but yongpil only makes it him even hard by staying close to samdal mom.
Yongpil has no proper character arc. His entire existence revolves around samdal, even she reciprocate his feelings, it still feels like complete one sided.

They are just in intial stage of relationship, taking break and self reflect will only work for couple who are together 5,6 years
Even though i don't like everything about this drama, still a decent watch as they don't try to preach life lessons and justify character behaviors.
I hope last 2 eps will be fine.

Yes our parents loves us wholeheartedly and tries to provide everything we need.

Dramas shows that parents control their children whole life but that's not completely true. That % is very less.
Generations changed. At present after getting property to their name, many are dicthing their parents leaving them homeless.
This % is keep raising every year, which is very alarming.
Government solution to these problems is give pension every month, so that they won't be burden to children.
