This was another good one from the HIStory series. The acting from the main couple seemed a little forced sometimes, but that's ok. It was definitely nice to see a solid BL outside the context of a school too. A cop falling for a gangster seems like it'd be a very serious topic, but this series manages to stay lighthearted for the most part. Also, the second couple was sooo adorable and I just can't shake it, but I feel like Jack looks like Bai Luo Yin/Timmy Xu from Addicted.
I enjoyed the absurdity of this series, but the lead was just TOO absurd sometimes...a 33 year old THAT incapable of knowing what dating/love is about is very hard sell.
I felt he said that because that's all he knew, i found the king creepy as he had him in his bed from a child.…
Something else that people tend to either forget or overlook is that, in the beginning of the movie, the queen actually actively dislikes Hong Rim because she knows the position he has in the king's heart. Hong Rim was a 'way out' of sorts for the queen, but I'm positive it wasn't true love.
I didn't rate this as high as I wanted to because of one very big and very unnecessary element to it, but I still enjoyed it. Maybe a few too many scenes spent in silence, but still a nice watch.
Ichiyo deserved to know the truth and have closure. He had a big future, and it’s upsetting the writers didn’t…
My heart really didn't break that much for Ichiyo. I mean, I liked his character. He was devoted to learning and sweet etc., but he was also in a very long-term toxic relationship with Riku. Like even if Riku did say "yes" when Ichiyo asked him if he loved him, I don't think that would've solved anything as I think Ichiyo was very aware of the fact that Riku was using him (even if he did really love him deep down). If Ichiyo's obsession with Amakami hadn't killed him, surely whatever his "thing" was with Riku eventually would have brought his life to ruin. He was doomed.
Amakami already had his own trauma, his own goals, and his own love. His affection and friendship with Ichiyo was pure, but I almost feel like (and I hate to say it) Ichiyo's presence in the film altogether creates a very strong and very unnecessary conflict that in reality had very little to do with either of the two main characters' plot lines. To the point that if Ichiyo were simply taken out of the film and it was Riku who found out Amakami and Aoi had slept together, we would have almost ended up with the same movie except with more intense, maybe violent, but not sad scenes (since Riku would be a stronger presence) and without an unneeded suicide hanging a cloud over the whole thing.
I loved this in the same way I loved 'Love Is More Than A Word' except the content of the story, production value and acting runs circles around 'Love Is More Than A Word'. This is a classic Chinese BL that is thrilling and funny while being SUPER (though not overtly) romantic. The lead couple's chemistry really can't be topped. If you think it lags the first couple of episodes, it's ok. Hang in there! It gets better!
Not sure how used to C-dramas you are, but they tend to pick up closer to the 10th episode, generally.
If you don't see a Cdrama picking up until after the 30th episode, then I feel like you may simply be missing the point of the story that's going on for the first 29 episodes. Maybe the subtlety? lol Anyway, this drama saw success because it was a good story. We had an "average-looking" female lead with an actual cause that was starkly different to other palace dramas with "pretty" leads essentially lying (you can take that with both meanings of the word) their way to the position of empress.
I felt he said that because that's all he knew, i found the king creepy as he had him in his bed from a child.…
To me, I think Hong Rim was in a really bitter/angry mood when he said that...especially after the king essentially tricked him into thinking that he had killed the queen. It's really hard for me to accept or even believe that Hong Rim really loved the queen though.
Xufeng is the most inept and useless male lead I've ever known. I'm watching episode 55 and I can't believe people…
TOTALLY agree. Every time they have arguments about who's to blame for things, I'm just thinking to myself, "Actually, if the Heavenly Empress just wasn't a complete witch, we wouldn't be having this problem." So much for the God of War, but Runyu is "scheming" for having common sense.
56 episodes in and I'm at full 'what-the-hell-is-going-on' mode. I've been told this ends happily, but I don't see how that's gonna happen...and tbqh if this "happiness" doesn't include Runyu, I'm gonna be pissed. lol
