He is being treated, the issue I think is the abuse of controlled substances. Taking more than what is prescribe can cause accidental overdose plus controlled drugs such as opioids and benzos can be habit forming. Instead of controlling the depressive symptoms, it can cause another problem such as dependence which is harder to cure. Drug diversion such as using other peoples prescription is dangerous as well.

Idk the real story, but In general, cheating happens everyday. Even married people cheat. People fall out of love all the time. Its harder to be in a relationship when the other party is not invested on it. Maybe it was time to part ways for them.
