I'm liking it but why is the editing so stupid sometimes? Like they put so much effort into this beautiful cinematography…
The director's choice was to emulate a manhua and a play. If you look at the closeups like the frames in a manhua, you'll see the similarities of posing. The extreme closeups with the direct eye contact, breaking the fourth wall. The director also framed the drama like a play because of the characters talking of plays. Right from the beginning, Duke Su spoke of "watching a play." You can see this in the way the director framed shots as if the characters were in a play--the way the four sides are boxed in, curtains above, flowery decorations on each side, a banister. This is most obvious in the scenes with the Princess and SYR, where SYR was often center stage. He was often very deliberate in his movements, standing still until that pivotal scene in which he moved his arms and flapped his sleeves. This was a very Chinese-opera movement. The Chinese opera theme was also carried out in the orangey makeup around the eyes, which was done in a lighter version of the extreme fashion one sees in Chinese opera. Princess Wanning and the one Ji Brother's twirls were also very Chinese opera-like.
This particular director is very artsy. You might not like his style but what he was doing was certainly not BS or stupid editing.
I finally broke away from Double Obsession and found a drama I didn't drop! So as not to be O/T, I posted about it in Other Discussions above on this page under the topic of What Are We Watching Next.
I think abay and bce are both S+ production as far as i know when the casts were announced.
You can't tell there was some effort with location (a place that looks German) and that the FL's office costumes were not flirtatious miniskirts? That there was probably a company that market flip phones is a backer? That there was a jewelry company involved? When have you seen a big GERMAN beer prominently shown a few times (even with the FL gulping it down so enthusiastically) and two German speaking actors at the end of the movie showing the friendly locale for honeymoon? These are product placements I find unusual in this drama.
The scene where Shen jumped from the wall as A Li walked away was stunning. Haunting but beautifully done. I won't…
It’s a beautiful Karmic scene. Used to stand outside the city gate and waited for him. He looked away from her towards his lover, the princess. Now he was outside the city gate, fallen. She was looking toward her lover. He threw the flute into her grave and he now died with the flute.
Well, I saw some people complaining about ''sad endings''. I don't like it either. But part of the Chinese period…
I'm not offended but the "avoid this type of series as it is clearly not for you" will definitely rub some people the wrong way. I paused at that sentence and then said, eh. LOL It's okay, I get what you're trying to say.

Yes, She is smart and has her own talent in reviewing. I seldom agree with her, but some of the points she made are valid. I do see, however, that she has changed through the years and has become very critical because, according to her, these idol dramas no longer hold her interest. I think she kind of look down on them now, you know?

Yes, I watched it and I agreed with her. Did you see her playing theGuqin? It was a great episode! I know you will love it since you are a musician. She is really one talented lady.
