I loved it, really ! It was so funny sometimes and also touching and beautiful. It might be long sometimes but it was worth it. I loved the characters.
I didn't like the camera work. Several times, the characters were having a conversation and the camera was far away, and I would wonder were the characters were. It was annoying... I didn't like the main actress, there was no chemistry between her and YamaKen.. That's a shame, I don't think it was a hard role to play... But she was dull. I didn't read the manga (only the 1st one) and I haven't watched the anime so I had no expectation. I enjoyed it at the beginning but then I just kept watching for Yamaken.. There were many boring moments but well it was an okay movie.
I've watched the anime but I still enjoyed this movie a lot. I liked the characters. I don't get why people says there's no plot or the editing is messed up... I mean, if you don't compare with the anime or manga, there is still a storyline. The movie follows Hachiken in this farming environment he knows nothing about. And I thought he had some character development but yes, it wasn't as noticeable as in the anime but still. So I think, those who gave it a bad rating, or who didn't like it were those who kept comparing it to the anime/mange. I think one should be able to accept that an adaptation in a different medium would not be the same as the original !
I've watched the anime and I read the manga too but I really tried to watch the movie without expectations but they really turned that movie into a mess. Firstly, I thought titans weren't that well done... Then, I felt like they were using too much blood for nothing. I don't care about gory stuff but it was annoying here sometimes. Then, I hated what they did to Mikasa's and Eren's background story. Mikasa is supposed to be a strong girl, and Eren too. They both supposed to be strong kids but they weren't here. They tried to put some love lines but that was not necessary, just annoying. Then, well, they mixed stuff from the manga/anime with stuff they created and it was pretty bad. What was up with those babies ? That was just annoying. Well, the movie was awful but it was also watchable. I would not watch it a second time though but I'll watch the next one without much expectations... When the movie ended, I just laughed thinking "WTF was that ?"
