A heartwrenching masterpiece against my eyeducts!

'A binding eternal knot of friendship and pure love.'

I started this series in excitement that it FINALLY made its return to the States. I had heard so much good buzz about this storyline that was headlined by some of my fave K-actors. So going in, I was hooked on the intermingling of modern with period storytelling, and then came my fave third wheel (who places green flag, oh so well)! Each actor carried this series very well. This series gave us a story about perseverance, accountability in life, and steadfastness in self, as well as in friendship that becomes your family. I see why it's a beloved drama. With its quirky moments, and some thread of drama that might annoy out of unnecessity, I now get to add this to my highly recommended list,

Note: Errrrrrmahagawd!! THIS WHOLE DAMN TIME!
So...I enjoy me some anime on top of my K-Dramas. If you too are an anime watcher and have watched ALL of Attack on Titan [remember grand finale]...watch Chicago Typewriter cus... [see my starting comment]!!!!!!

Sweetness done right!!

An ABSOLUTE LOVE!!! This one started off with a little bit of uncertainty in the direction it was leading via episode 1 but that did NOT last long in episode 1. I was hooked line and sinker after my initial uncertainty and was given a show that reminded me about WHY I fell in love with K-dramas to begin with.

There are moments in this series where I wish bullies were dealt with harsher, however, I get it, and it's just a me thing. It didn't really take away from the series at all, mainly because things like 'k-tropes' that we're used to, were nicely reframed (...and it's about time!) and characters were giving so much love and general character growth. So, with that, this is one series that I will miss, and almost wish that it was a 'tiny bit' longer.

OMG! Now, I need a hug!

I entered into watching this, totally bamboozled. I THOUGHT by the synopsis that I was getting a sweet romance. I was so ready for a nice little love fest. But what I got, was a love that spanned 12 years muddled by horrific trauma and a monstrous obsessive psychopathic parent from hell!

My eyes hurt. My heart hurts. My feelings hurt! And...who EVER created this drama needs a GD hug themselves!

In this story, our ML and FL were beautifully crafted and the above all way they understood each other and how at such a young age our FL didn't blame our ML...my gawd!! ALL the onions and tears! I hurt for them. I rooted for the true support and our ML's spirit mother and sister. I just... this was a breakdown! Again... all the onion!

I despise how in this world (because I don't know SK laws like that) how damn LONG it was taking to unalive this villain! I THOUGHT he had been sentenced to death. SENTENCED!!! Yet here he goes just breathing in the hole. AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Anyway. This was heartbreaking good and for those who got sucked in by the vague synopsis, this story is about two young teens whose lives are destroyed by the murder of the FL's parents...by the ML's father, a serial killer. It spans 12 years of turmoil, grief, and pain.

I wanted a trople...deal. (My unlikeable review)

So here is my unlikeable review.

This 'wreaked my eyeballs'. So, here's my take and why I left a high rating. I started this because I adore, absolutely adore our FL. I love our ML as well, but I came here to watch out FL and Shin gives like she always does. Now for the story plot, I understand why people have given this such a low rating because they are stuck on the early toxicity of our ML. It's hard to swallow if you are not used to seeing it or are just absolutely over it. I come from a mental health background and I'm an older Millenial watcher, so taking this in as a story about mature love, one that goes through the ups and downs. One where I think this story writer is trying to show how to give a love story through the lessons of that 'rocky' road intermingling with mental health/trauma and grief. There is a LOT here.

For me, I kind of got it. Which made me not totally sour and clock out. I hate that our ML's background was used to make us pity him in a sense, but at the same time, it really wasn't about that, it was an understanding of how he became where he was and in all his 'trauma' was someone who did love her, and saw that he was being damaging. It was why I never rooted for him. LOL I really wanted our SL to win and toward the end, once EVERYONE got therapy (This didn't happen, it was a hope), I wanted a healthy Polagamy *wink* because I ended up understanding EVERYONE'S POV. This is why I gave this review what I did.
A complicated bit of maturing into love.

n00bs at love no longer!

I came to see our Twinkling Watermelon fave branched off into being a romantic lead and stayed for the connecting story! I'm typically very iffy about age difference romances (Noona & Oppa roms), but the writing and development of this story was truly really fun and not freaking annoying! I loved it. This was a very solid watch that gave me not one, but TWO eventual couples to root for and love who showed GROWTH/Connectiveness in both phases of love (and ages). ROCK ON!

P.S. This is one drama that made me wish I were a driver of a white truck. I'd use it for our particular villain. The MANY ways this villain had me cursing at the screen, and befitting them with a title of dislike! Good job, writers!

Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, 'A chopped bonny apples Joseon 'love' watch

Welcome to the time travel special of 'Chopped' Joseon style, ya'll!!! I have been waiting on this highly anticipated show since it began making its runs on the K-drama circuit. Then once it dropped...I had to suffer through dodging all the nasty little spoilers being shown. I sat in anxiety, hoping that I'd love this show, which, based on the previews, was giving me my other favorite time-traveling Joseon cooking rom-com show, "Mr. Queen," vibes. (I highly recommend that one.)

Interestingly enough...and this is a good thing, it was nothing like that, except in light homage of similar situational feels. That's it and that's all, but that's what sets the two apart for me, which makes me value Mr. Queen more. HOWEVER....Bonny Apples holds its own in giving me joy, laughs...early attraction and kisses, as well as all the different interpretations of food brought into the Joseon period. As a foodie, I was locked in. As a hopeless romantic, the recasting of our ML [Lee Chae-min] was PERFECTION (You all can look up the pre-production drama that happened with that; it was goofy, but eh). He gave all that needed to be given. Regal sex appeal, ruthless callousness...in needed situations and great fighting skills. Our FL [Im Yoon-ah] was an EXCELLENT contrast in bringing her modern sensibility, aloofness, and utter forgetfulness of the era she was in/disbelief in being in it, personality to his abrasive nature, which was being hidden purposefully due to royal intrigue. On top of that...sis could throw down in the kitchen, causing a PG version of my fave anime Food Wars, reactions.

I do recommend watching this show just for the escapism and food. I do have two lingering questions about that ending and epilogue as well. One is a minor little gripe related to my P.S. below. All in all, watch dis ish, and enjoy. My eyes were hit by onions at the end, because I'm a sap, go judge ya peoples!

RATING: As you see, I deducted a point...ONLY because of my two lingering questions, that are just 'wants' that I had. Otherwise, for moi, this drama is a solid 10.

P.S. Let me leave with my fave saying that only those in my Blaque K-drama group understand...

🗣️🗣️THAT SILVER-HAIRED BAMA!!! [Secondary actor: Jo Jae-Yoon] 😍
