I think Yu Shin and Sa Hun are now in their own private hell. The professor may get his reckoning - and he may…
Sa Hun is in his own private hell, for sure, but I'm not so sure about Yoo Shin, if he is a personality disorder, as I suspect. I still can't get past all the various ways he tried to manipulate Pi Young and seemed to feel no emotion while he was twisting her up in knots, and only at the end, when he knew he had failed to convince her to remain in the marriage, did he shed tears. I would not be surprised if he ends up sleeping with Dong Mi; he is that disgusting - and of course, he will find some way to justify his behavior
Good point - he was too stiff and not much emotion in his conversation with her. Going down in bended knees was…
He was coming up with every manipulative game he could come up with until the very end, using "that's the way men are" argument, his professional expertise, Pi Young's desires to be a good mother, and her already overwhelming guilt about her mother as weapons against her. He truly is what Pi Young called him.
I too love the flowering of the love between Pa Hun's parents. It's dispiriting seeing all the comments about…
The writers and the actors are indeed amazing; the acting and the writing are so nuanced in this series that even with very basic English translations (I have to say that this drama has made me wish that I was fluent in Korean and more cognizant of Korean culture specifically), one really could intuit the Yoo Shin's emotions and manipulative games that he was using to persuade Pi Young to overlook his infidelity "this one time". Not until the end, when he realized that Pi Young would not relent and he had lost her, did I feel that he was truly sincere in his regrets (although I'm still not convinced that he thinks his affair was a big deal).
Well, if it had not already been established, Yoo Shin is the most repulsive and manipulative of the husbands, even beating out Hae Ryoon, who makes my skin crawl every time I think of what he did to Shi Eun and his kids. Yoo Shin used every psychological ploy and manipulative trick to get Pi Young to stay with him. When he brought up her dead mother, and how Pi Young needed to forgive his infidelity for Jia's sake, I was ready to lunge through the screen for his throat! Thank goodness Pi Young had the backbone to stick to her guns and kicked that piece of trash to the curb. No one's mentioned it, but one of my favorite parts is the improved relationship between Sa Hun's parents in episode 11. I was touched by Pan Munho's words to his wife and the purchase of the forever rings. They were really touching together, and every woman hopes that her indifferent husband can come to the same epiphany that Pan Munho had.
So...we are allowing this girl to act out like a spoiled brat? The way she is acting out and throwing a tantrum…
I agree that the little episode in the pool with the dirty old ghost seemed pretty stupid but I think the writers are looking for some character to provide comic relief since Sa Hun's parents have made up, are lovey-dovey, and thus, no longer funny. The writers do have a weird sense of humor however.
Today's episode was a bit anti-climactic after episode 10. While I can totally see the attraction between Seo Ban and Song Won, I really hope that it's Shi Eun whom he ends up with. (What a blow to Hae Ryoon, especially if Ga Bin throws him over, as I suspect will happen!) I have a feeling that Yoo Shin's affair is going to publicly blow up, especially since Dr. Jo knows that A Mi is his daughter, and his wife is about to find out that her husband has another child. Yoo Shin is still his manipulative self, trying desperately to return to his marriage.
Where I think people get upset is the fact that Sa Hun isn’t honest about his feelings to Hy Reung. He tells…
Could not agree with you more; while Hye Ryung is frightening when she is angry, if Sa Hun had any guts at all, he would stand his ground instead of being his mealy-mouthed, puppy-dog self. Sa Hun is a coward.
My predictions of who ends up with whom: Shi Eun & Seo Ban; think Pi Young may stay together for the sake of the daughter although it will be miserable. Other alternatives: Dong Mi gets caught finally (she is too wicked for a Koran’s to let her escape a just comeuppance. Hye Ryung becomes involved in a sexual scandal which allows Sa Hun to divorce her and marry Song Won. Hopefully Ga Bin will reject Hy Ryoon and he will be left alone and disgraced. The stage is set for some serious scene-chewing by the actors in the next six episodes. Can’t wait for episode 11 tomorrow
Welcome to this message board, probably the liveliest one right now on MDL. In complete agreement with you about…
I appreciate your insights. People don’t seem to realize that marriage is a two-way street, and the fact that Hye Ryung was acting totally inappropriately towards men before Sa Hun did anything and is currently plotting to have an affair herself seems to be totally forgotten. Personally I think the two most despicable characters in the whole series are Yu Sinn and Hye Ryung; both are totally repulsive.
I agree with you about Hy Reung but what I see as a problem is that her husband knew that she is like that and…
Then the onus should be on Sa Hun, who began to stalk her after he saw her on in the gym. He precipitated the affair, not Song Won. She is not innocent, but she is less to blame than the wimpy Sa Hun
I love this drama and am becoming obsessed by it. The acting is terrific and the actors are not bad to look at either. That said, I have been somewhat shocked at the attitudes towards the mistresses, especially Song Won, and the criticism about the writers giving the "mistresses" more scenes. (I am speaking as a wife, who had been "traded in" for a younger model like Lee Shi Eun so generally I have no sympathy for mistresses whatsoever). I am rooting for Lee Shi Eun and am hoping she ends up with the handsome and enigmatic Seo Ban, who does seem to have some interest in her (fingers crossed!) That said, clearly in Korea, there is a stronger feeling against divorce than in the US., and that must explain the antipathy some show towards Song Won. She has made a bad mistake in sleeping with Sa Hun, who is the biggest crybaby and mama's boy ever. However, unlike the others, she did not purposely go after Sa Hun as Nam Ga Bin or Ah Mi did. In fact, she "slept" with the crybaby Sa Hun to turn him off by revealing how 42 looked. Not a good idea, obviously, but not a purposeful stunt to woo Sa Hun away from his wife like her other two friends, who are purposely willing to break up their boyfriends' marriages. She also accepts responsibility for her actions, is making no demands on Sa Hun for support of the child or herself, and is actively discouraging Sa Hun from pursuing her. Yes, she made a bad mistake by sleeping with a married man, but she is paying for it. Hy Reung, on the other hand, has totally fallen down on her responsibilities as Sa Hun's wife. While it seems to be a lot more difficult to fulfill one's responsibilities as a Korean wife, she would not even "cut it" in the US. She doesn't cook; she doesn't clean; she doesn't care for her husband when he is sick, going so far as to kick him out of their shared bed; she goes out drinking with her friends whenever she feels like it; she flirts with other men; she disrespects her in-laws; she's extremely demanding and uncompromising --- and she's doing this all before Sa Hun takes one wrong step. She is totally self-absorbed and inconsiderate of those around her. Hy Reung had totally reneged on her marital contract long before Sa Hun misbehaved. Clearly this marriage was not going to last whether her young husband cheated or not! I don't think that the writers are showing favoritism towards the mistresses, like some of the comments say. They are trying to give us an objective view of the background and the motivations of each of the characters, and I am finding the whole interplay fascinating.
