I think when they were kid the king didn't fall in love with the queen, perhaps a crush,cause the king thought the concubine was the one who was in the well with him but he completely forgot her and flirted with the queen.
I think they used a trick,now everyone can have their own interpretation.Your's are valid too,so are mine,both the queen and the modern guy was different people,maybe they have somewhat similarities between them but they are not same so if the king still don't realize something is wrong than I will say he just like any other man,not a kdrama ml.i didn't mean it in literal sense.They also handled the ending carefully,they fooled people to believe it was a happy ending but hidden the tragic ending under layers.If we minus both the king and queen,the modern guy got a sad ending,he lost everything he loved,I am happy for him that he returned but I also cried like a child at the ending, that's why I think it's sad ending

I loved Ifylita a lot, it's one of my top fav bl but I don't think it got the fame it deserves

It doesn't really help,cause i think the person the king fall in love with is gone,now he is looking forward to the new things but soon he will realize that there's nothing,he will probably learn to live without that feeling again and probably be with someone else other than the queen,if we look at the bigger picture he learned new things,but the present queen won't give him the feelings that guy gave him,if the king can move on like all the other broken relationship and start to love queen who is absolutely new and different person than it's good for him but it's sad that he will never know what happened to the strong love he feel towards one person,that person will be in front of him,but he will still suffer as the one he loved isn't in front of him.So for me it was a sad ending.As his love story will always be incomplete

The original had a ending like both meet each other again in the modern time's, possibilities opened there, anyway the original cdrama was a bl,this wasn't they could have shown us both of them in the present time and left it as a open ending,this was just plain cruelty to the king.
The king in the kdrama might not like the modern person as a man,but he still deserved to be in touch with him,not like this without knowing anything,now he will just feel empty his whole life,like in the ending he said he was missing something,poor king

This was just a childhood crush I think,he thought that concubine was the savior but clearly he still became close to the queen meaning it was just a childhood crush.But the king feel in love with the modern man,he feel in love with the modern man's thinking,his attitude,his personality and his tactics,his behaviors,at the end he even said he was missing something,that peace was temporary,it has a sad ending they fooled us.
