Haha.... I think one comment over here point out that this drama threw most of the palace etiquette out of the window, only keeping the rule Queen= needing to be a noble lady (which I agree) .
Regardless, its interesting that even among the Joseon nobles/yangban, there seems to be a hierarchy even among themselves. I found out about this recently when watching episode 3 of Jang Ok Jung Living By Love (another historical korean drama). During the crown princess selection, the noble ladies actually have to line up according to their father ranking in the court.
Also another thing, it seems that back in the days, Yangban/Korean nobles tend to marry among themselves to keep their 'status' as yangban. Commoners also tend to marry among themselves. Hence, if somebody from the royal family marries a commoner, this will usually cause lots of backlash from the court, sometimes even bloodshed.

You guys have forgotten how strict ancient Korea especially Joseon dynasty/period is. The queen has to be of Yangban/noble family birth. Lets imagine if Sorang family is a commoner, her outcome will actually be similar to Choi Sukbin or DeokIm (watch korean drama Dongyi, Yisan and Red Sleeves to understand).
In conclusion, the reason why Sorang became queen in the end is because she belongs to Yangban (she is actually of noble birth). She is the eldest daughter of Minister of Personnel. Sorang family background/status is actually higher than the late crown princess Jayeon.
If Sorang regain her real identity as Ye Hyeon Seon, she actually can become the queen( which she eventually did)Sorang is the daughter of minister of personnel ( senior second rank). Late crown princess is the daughter of daesaseong of royal academy(senior third rank)
