Well, that's exactly what he did : after losing his family main warriors, at a very young age he had to trained for war and he brought back the WEI former glory. The drama could have easily ending at Panyi (even Xindu). WS could have let QM died in the cross fire at Panyi and since the Governor and QM's maids said that QM was aducted by SML, he had right there the perfect excuse for his potential crime : "while trying to rescue his fiancée from the villain SML, she was unfortunately killed by an arrow sent". Hence he would had gained the people love while securing provision for Xindu.
As for marrying ZS, WS would never : Lady Xu would never have allow it. Don't forget that she is the reason that WS marry QM in the first place.

The show did a wonderful job showing us viewer why the WEI despite their very bad premise are so strong and that the QIAO only/mainly relied on their allies military support for their security (they are unwilling to shed their blood but expect their allies (people and army) to die for their cause). The preview of ep 30 shows this same logic in QDao reasoning.

By the magic of plot armor, the writing really favour QM. For me, in ep 31, what WS said to QM should be what she said to him.

Thank you. Finally someone that see the biais toward FL lead and the real disastrous consequences of her scheme for the Wei (enven if WS win, his army is bound to be severely weakened).

At some point I was really irritated by the comments here : since the day he hunted that mystical beast for her, WS has always treated QM has the lady Wei. Yet, she has never truly regarded him as family. The argument between WS and QM on ep 29 was spot on. WS laid it beautifully (sadly).
