I like this series a lot. It is different from the original anime, but still has it charm. I liked the relationship between Chen Xiaoshi and Lu Guang. The bromance is strong. It is clearly that they care about each other a lot. The stories are also very touching.
Just give it a try and if it is not your cup of tea and not worth your time you can stop.
Everyone has his own preferences, so I would recommend to give it a try.

No, there is no romance so far and I doubt there will be. But there is pretty strong bromance.

On the poster to this series, there is a photo on the wall, where you can see Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi looking same as their anime characters (I mean Lu Guang with white hair and Cheng Xiaoshi in his jacket). So why didn´t they keep it that way in the series????

He plays Lu Guang. So, yes, he is the ML. He and Jiang Long (Cheng Xiaoshi) have pretty equal screen time.

I would say it is more a bittersweet happy ending. I believe, that Lin Jiushi created a World of spirit Realm so that he can return and stay there with Ruan Nanzhu and others forever. And in 灵境世界 he will be always young like there was no separation and everyone he loved never die.
