This is not the continuation of Douluo Continent (DC). The Land of Warriors (TLOW) is an adaptation that follows the original works (Novel and Donghua). DC only shares the power system and characters' names. Other than that, everything is different. That's why TLOW will have its own flashback to cover the 'Season 1' timeline, or maybe they'll recap important events in the first episode.
One of the big differences. Tang San and Xiao Wu first meeting. Novel, Donghua & TLOW: They met as children (Will be played by child actors) DC: They met as adults (Played by adult actors)

Ahaha... I think the producer know not everyone have energy to watch 100 eps of donghua... Hence some flashbacks that I see on the trailer... But, might guess they will compress all the event lead to the final competition in the first ep... They even shoot Tang San and Xiao Wu first meeting with child actors... I agree, as a Donghua fan, I love the sea god arc, and it is one of my fav arcs.
It's remind me of their early training years but much more epic and everyone relationship is on another level. Lol, I can't wait for all the action and romance. Ahaha... I can't wait to see all the romances because we no need to wait for more episodes for their feelings to develop.
My another fav is Tang Sect arc. When Tang San went to meet the four sect masters. I can't wait to see Xiao Wu in action. Lol, don't we all love when woman become protective. Hehe...
Again I'm here to remind everyone. No this is not Douluo Continent Season 2. This is not the sequel. This is a NEW adaptation for Douluo Dalu/Soul Land. They only continue the timeline which is the final competition arc. I know they set this as Douluo Continent 2. But from the trailer we can see everything is different. I think Episode 1 will recap everything that happen before the final competition. So, yes, you can watch this without Douluo Continent.
Of course another season of a movie and different cast but same characters. We will see how it is been 3 years.
Different storyline. Different characterisation. So, I wouldn't treat TLOW as Season 2. Douluo Continent is just a spin-off to me. 'What if Tang San is an immature and weak person? What if Shrek 7 isn't Shrek 7?' Then you'll get DC. They just have the same power system and character's name. TLOW seems likely to follow the original work, plot and characterisation.
I wouldn't say a sequel. TLOW has different storyline then Douluo Continent because TLOW will follow the original work (Novel and Donghua). DC have a very different storyline than the original works. TLOW also will have their own flashbacks to cover up the timeline before the final competition. They'll not follow DC's plot.
Another fact about Tang San people need to know before they jump towards The Land of Warriors. This is not a spoiler. Just a little glimpse about who is our hero. I love Tang San too much to let people misunderstand his character.
1. He is a powerful solid character. I don't want to see people complain about him don't have any character development. Because the ones that will have a character development are the people around him. He affects other people, not the other way around. 2. He is a protective lover. VERY in fact. He is that guy who is "I know you can do it but not when I'm around and capable of doing it for you" kind of guy. 3. His loyalty is over the roof. So don't try to ship him with other characters... Xiao Wu might jump out from the screen to kick you. Hehe...
