Is it revolutionary or life changing or deep? No. But the ML isn't a major red flag. It gets points for that, and for exploring the value of honest communication.
What is the teacher crisis? I'm googling and I find nothing.
The Korean Herald - title "Elementary teacher takes own life in classroom" from July of 2023. I recommend reading about her and the Seocho-gu incident. It came out later that the teacher was bullied and harassed by a student's parents. That neighborhood is full of rich people, including lawyers, and the rumor is that she was threatened with lawsuits that would ruin her financially. So she is unalive from their pressure. Many teachers skipped school to attend her funeral - as a form of protest. We were told we could lose our jobs if we took that day off. Many teachers found loopholes just to attend.
Thinking this is "love" is a mistake. This is abuse. Anyone who belittles you and makes you feel small and incapable, undermines your confidence so that you can't make friends easily, and tries to keep you "all for themselves" -- is a dangerous person, not a lover. This is what abusers do. What is really going on is grooming. He's grooming her to be a doormat.
If this is a spoiler, let me know and I'll edit, but... This whole show has a ton of rape vibes. Maybe the manga is that way? But still. This armchair psychologist (me) found this show to be full of so much unhealthy behavior and thinking. FL apologizes for being sexually harassed and assaulted. I know this is intended to be "light and fluffy" but the stuff that happens to the FL is not "light". She's just a doormat (possibly co-dependent or just dangerously naive). The whole time I kept saying homegirl needs a therapist.
This was a fun read. I especially like the tips at the end to avoid SLS. Entertaining.
I guess, for me, there's nothing wrong with some SLS heartbreak. If it happens, it happens. Like Choi Young Do. Sigh. But at the same time, I think it's worth it to love those characters because they were good characters. So I'm open for that heartbreak as well. (better to have loved and lost, maybe?) But I get you. Dramas are a wild ride, and you do what you gotta to get through sometimes.
This definitely isn't a light romance or comedy. It's more about self-reliance and stability than about being saved by a prince charming. The characters have more depth and that makes this hard (definitely not light and fluffy).
The first episode has so many cliches and tropes that I kept saying "Who wrote this?!" It can't be serious. I'm not sure if I will finish this drama, but if I do, it will be for laughs. 'Poor manga artist', 'abduction', 'rich guy', 'rich girl/adopted into a rich family', 'evil sister', 'boyfriend stealing', 'amnesia', 'blindness', 'lopsided family dynamic', 'breaking expensive item and gets indebted to rich guy', 'contract relationship', 'one-sided love'..... That's not all and that's just 1 episode.
The ending though! Ugh. I get it. But they could have filmed some more so I have some satisfaction. Also, the .hack//sign flashbacks with this! (it's an anime about an MMORPG)
Ugh. This is horrible. She was one of my favorites. (i hate to speculate, but was it postpartum depression? i see she just had a baby in the last 10 months.)
My favorite scene is toward the end of series where Sun Ja (the main mom) gets off her deathly sick bed in the hospital to go tell off Tae Joo's dad. The mom's rough character made the show for me.
