What I like about this series is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. It's shamelessly over the top and cringy but well done. The end result is funny and sweet instead of annoying.

That might have been a translation issue or something. He didn't make the final team because of the corrupt coach but he was called up for the training camp. I think that's what they mean when they refer to him being on the national team.
