I expected that the princess will become the rebel and usurp the throne. Well the title Rebel princess gives that idea. But seriously I felt her character wasn't dominant. Xiao qi's presence was much stronger than the protagonist. Plus, the FL was always playing into other people hands, like schemes by her uncle, aunt, cousins and father. She isn't cautious enough and is naive. Not hear-hearted enough. This drama wasn't about the FL it was about the political and succession struggle of Cheng (country) and how a family broke apart because of that. That's how I felt. The FL was only strong in the part where she defended some city while her husband brought reinforcements. That's it. Her character is not very special. It's not like she's a ruler, political leader, military leader or a deep strategist. The perception and expectation of viewers clash with what is there. However, this is my opinion. I still liked it because of Zhang Zi Yi's acting, plot and production. It's just her character was lacking dominance in the plot.

I expected a lot...turned out different from what it used to be....I mean they should've shown proper true love (heart-touching love) between them....I mean just because you spend some days with a handsome, strong , gentle dragon it doesn't mean you will fall in love with them so deeply that you can't get rid of the attachments in your next lifetimes.
The poor dragon sacrificed so much and went through a lot but the FL didn't know and forgot about him in each lifetime...what a selfless ML. But they were a nice pair of lost lovers!
Actually the romance between the second couple - Xue Qian xun and Qingqing was good. They had good, funny and long interactions.
Why the did villain come after ep 30?? Where was he? It was total sudden, plot twist. Ahhhh look at his harmless face...how did even become evil and ambitious??!!!
The ending was sad but beautiful. They always wanted to be together but they were now closer than any pair of lovers in the world - with their souls accompanying each other while keeping the world at peace.
Overall it was nice.

Basically, Young Woo just liked him a bit but he knew that they can never be together and aren't suitable. They just felt attracted for sometime, so he said that dialogue in the end, stating that they are just characters in that play and their relationship is only active in the play and not the real life.
Just an assumption, but I also think he called referred to themselves by the names of characters because he their story is similar and it will end tragically.
But really, nice acting and screenplay.
