I started this drama after several failed attempts (not being a fan of T-dramas being the main reason) & the weird opening few minutes of this drama with the strange wolf boy(?).....BUT.....once I got past that I loved it. Saw 4 episodes back to back and cant wait to for the rest. So far its been excellent... I fervently hope it will not disappoint me in the end :)

I know there were a lot of Trash/Chil Bong fans (Reply 1994) but for me this guy stole the show :)

Just wanted to say I really enjoyed your "Lost in Translation" article.

Those screencaps made me lol especially the one with the fish hahahahaha.

I agree with you at first I found it a little confusing but I get the nuances in the culture as although I have lived all my life in England I grew up in an Asian culture. I prefer them to say oppa rather than the persons name. Also I have noticed that in K & J-dramas that when a character say a mom is talking she wont say "I" she will say "Omma/okasan will do xyz."

I don't like subs that cater too much to a Western (American) palette I have seen subs where they say stuff like "Y'all" & use of slang American English "'ssup" which I find really off putting.

What I feel as a viewer I miss out on is the metaphors, proverbs & idioms which are common to each culture/language. I would prefer the metaphors & idioms to be translated verbatim & a short explanation attached. I did see a drama where the subber did that I cant remember now what the drama was. It was an older drama I saw on Gooddrama and you could tell it was a labour of love by the subber. Eg "Your liver has gotten big" meaning you are too big for your boots

Title Reply 1994
The "Touts Les Jours" scene in episode 19 was really funny something similar happened to me. I was meeting some friends in London & as I got off the tube I rang one of them to ask for directions to the bar they were at. He told me the bar was opposite "Pret a Manger" & he pronounced it like Chil Bong lol I didn't have the heart to tell him the correct pronunciation.
