I think more than the romantic moments, it was about the trust everyone had in everyone else. king trusting his retainers for orders, army trusting the general, general trusting his woo dal chi, and so forth. But I do get what you are trying to say too

The little details and noticeable moments, while they have the small talk, and the bigger things are going on in background. e.g. after the long day when she unties her hair, he keeps staring at her hair wanting to touch, and offers a comb when he can't bear to watch any longer, BUT the comb falls, and they both realize his mind is weakening his grip. There are barely any places where it's not detailed. It definitely could cut down 2-3 episodes, but it's not dragging either. And the only thing that I felt bad about was that even though the ending was great and one of a kind, it wasn't overwhelming. It could have been much more heartwarming. I don't feel full after finishing the series.
I really loved his acting and face in the show beautiful gong shim, and I watched the girl who sees scent just because of him, and ended up being disappointed because he had negative role, more disappointed because he did it so well, and even more disappointed (in myself this time) since I liked the beautiful character he portrayed (except sociopath part)
p.s. chinese version has rating 8.6 and korean version the adaptation has 8.7 . I am guessing the bald head caused the rating difference.
