If i remember correctly, when the drama was filmed, the female lead was more popular than the male lead. That…
yup. sadly it did neither the show nor her any favors. What was bearable and even cute for her first two episodes became redundant and cloying due to sheer volume & repetitiveness.

guess if i didn't watch the anime, i wouldn't have known why Xiao Wu emphasized so much on wanting him to comb…
True the original hair combing scene had a moving backstory and took longer to introduce & signaled a shift in the nature of their relationship/dynamic vs just help with a morning task. -Although it was really cute to see little Tang San learning to braid hair by the river (❤ω❤)

Just want to point out, the FL won second place in idol TV show produce 101 during the time, which is quite popular…
I totally agree! Thats why the character as it was originally, would've been a perfect foray into acting & didn't need to be forcibly beefed up only to make her thespian shortcomings more obvious.

yup, I know, but if being the center of attention was her/her management's goal they should've opted for another show/role. Shoehorning her character into scenes she didn't belong in or just making up new scenes (dodging light sabers for four minutes?!?!) that don't move the story forward in any way & relegate the central character, Tang San, to spectator/glorified baby-sitter weakened the whole show and didn't make her more likable or memorable in anything other than a negative way. I wanted to like this drama so much, and I still do because I think the ml is wonderful and really looked like what I imagined Tang San to look like, but omg the fl almost ruined it. I know in the original story it starts out with them as six year olds, but this is clearly not the case in the drama adaptation, so why the decision was made to have her speak like a child the entire time is beyond me. Even the mentality was so stunted. There's a difference between being naive & innocent and just acting dumb. Not to mention she was written into a lot of scenes her character wasn't originally in to the detriment of the male lead, who instead of being composed and confident now suddenly always needs her assistance ???? I love the original work & I never expected a drama to be able to fully translate the elaborate fight scenes & backgrounds of the animation so I think it helps if you keep them separate in mind. I'm understanding of the limitations a live action would face so I would still recommend the show to anyone and rate it highly :) just beware of Xiao Wu and her perpetual babbling/ pouting/ playing with her hair, demanding to be included in every scene and side lining the actual star of the show/main character.
