I rewatched that part and turns out I didn't see that gloves scene at all. After the credits started rolling, I thought it was just that and stopped there. :P

The distant love thing meant that even if she went later, they'd still be together. Or maybe he was encouraging her to pursue what she wanted (and she did). That part is a bit open ended since we didn't get to see anything else. I think you can conclude whatever you want about her having gone or not. But still- they managed to end up together since he was technically proposing to her as he said. :)
