Furthermore, we haven’t been given specifically why two actors won’t be coming back, the official statement…
There’s no way the producers choose this situation for themselves. Changing both leading actors is a huge risk they wouldn’t take unless they absolutely must. They have to shoehorn an 8 year time jump into the story to somehow explain it, and there’s still a chance for decline in viewership. A tough situation. I expect hard promotion with the new actors during the summer.
If anybody is innocent in this they are the new actors. They only accepted a job they were offered and came into the picture after their predecessors left. I don’t know what some people are thinking. ^^'
Also please note that people who complain are not necessarily fans of the old cast, they just hate the change itself. It's hard to accept that your favourite character suddenly has a different face. Of course it doesn’t justify being rude.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know the official reason they gave us were "scheduling conflicts" which is very much believable in Song Joong Ki's case. The guy has 3 movies in the making, and probably booked until the end of this year. Kim Ji Won on the other hand is a mystery. She doesn't seem to have any work in production at the moment, but we don't know about her other commitments or personal life. She seems to take long breaks between roles, maybe she has some reason behind this, and Arthdal was too grand project for her to take.
I still don’t getting why people need explanation about the 8 years gap. Nothing straordinario happened in that…
Remember that Eunseom's goal is not to be the Ago's ruler, he's not building political power here, just starting a rebellion. The Agos are following him because they think he is a god. His goal is to free the Wahans, and he only went along with the Agos proclaiming him Inaishingi, because he needed an army to fight Arthdal.
In fact in Game of thrones they change director every tow episodes and even in Bond of brothers, tow of the highest…
Western shows are produced differently. They usually have different directors for almost every episode. But the person responsible for all creative decisions, and the overall integrity of the series is the showrunner, the directors hold much less power in this setup.
I’m familiar with Lee Joon-Gi. I know he is talented and dedicated and can pull of a double role without problems. Still I haven’t seen him play a role that was already established before he took it, and don't know how will he handle it. I’m invested in these characters, I want as much of them back as possible. And now I’m anxious about it. Please bear with me.
I wasn’t complaining about how the new costumes look. Actually I can’t wait to see what kind of garb the will dress up Saya in. Still my earlier statement stands.

The last season ended with a literal cliffhanger. Eunseom successfully united 3 of the Ago tribes, and he was made to lead their rebellion. Tagon was very much aware of this and planned to use it to his advantage. He wanted to quell the rebelling Arthdal tribes by uniting them against this common enemy. He needed the war. You can say that it took some time for Eunseom to persuade all of the agos, 1 or 2 years would be even believable, but 8 is a bit stretchy. Especially from Tagon's point of view.
I can’t say I’m excited about this sequel, it’s more like I’m anxious about it. Every new information I hear just creates a new way for it to flop. New lead actors. New director. 8 year time jump. None of them seems promising so far.
The writers have to come up with a terrific excuse how come the plot hasn’t moved forward for eight! years. That’s an awfully long period of time.
Also let’s hope the new actors knew what they were signing up for. This will be a direct sequel and not a remake, the story will continue where the first season was left off, the characterisation also have to do the same thing. If they want to convince us they are playing the same characters, they have to build their portrayal on what their predecessors did during the firs season.
The revamped looks are nice, but it makes hard to connect the new actors with their characters, when they look nothing like how they did during the first season.
At least the writers stayed the same. I liked what they showed us in the animated prologue of the second season, I hope they still plan to go for that.

I agree on that. Historical fantasy fits Lee Joon Gi the best. :D
