Its no wonder that drama are mostly targeted towards women. We all know that women are housewives and stay at home, while men are working and don't have that much time for TV. Women can watch dramas while doing laundry,cleaning or ironing clothes.
I have 3 guys and 2 women in my top 5. I would like to add one more actress, but I can't.

Am not a horror movie fan, but the other 2 are great. I enjoyed watching Twins Effect and loved Heavenly Forest.

Still haven't watched Hana Kimi 2012.

I watched all the others and I have to say, they all have their strong points.

HanaKimi 2007 was just too silly for me, but I loved Naktsu, Nanba-senpai and the Ghost-guy. Just for those guys I finished that drama. Ohh and I liked the few scenes with Yu Shirota, the rival.

HanaKimi Taiwan, is my fav so far. Its funny, but not silly. The characters are very nice portrayed( some overacted). What I didn't like was the open ending.

To the Beautiful You, they couldn't have spoiled it more than this. I really loved it while watching, but for me I watched it as a diffrent story, not as a HanaKimi remake. As you said too many things are missing. they did it like: Hey you all know the story anyways, so we won't show you what you love about the story, but give you more....ehm...glamour....ehm...hottie!

Take both Crows Zero movies. They do let us think that those gangs are great. GTO is also kind of glamorizing that bad guys.

You mentioned nearly all of my fav revenge damas, but the best should be Bridal Mask. That drama was a hit and the acting superb.
Revenge drama all start great, but end in a disaster like May Queen. They really waste the talent of the child/teen actors.
One really nice revenge drama is Prosecuter Princess. The revenge is not the main theme, but worth the watch.
