This show is great so far! The writing is fantastic with complex and grey characters (as expected from Secret Forest writer) and I find Jo Seung Woo and Yoo Jae Myung the most compelling actors out of the bunch. 2 things that i wish could be improved more: the overdramatic music score (they should really tone it down!) and Lee Dong Wook's acting.

This is the kind of show that you don't need to take too seriously. Don't think, FIL!! lol. I enjoyed the first 4 episodes! Jennifer and Fang are the scene stealers. I feel bad for her high school friend who's been waiting for her for 13 years. :(

Not sure if it's the writing or acting, but Da Young just feels so out of place every time she's with her friends or the male lead. So far Sang Ah and Hye Joo are the most likable characters.

I finished this drama yesterday and I feel like there is something missing in my life today, I can't forget that…
Ah... you're bringing back all the feels! That moment when she deleted the program and later on DH's footstep sound started to disappear. :''''( Cue the waterworks. And on feeling like there's something missing, I could totally relate. I remember after i finished episode 16 I felt like a part of me was taken away.. i lost my appetite for DAYS. And i'm a huge foodie so that's a big deal. I guess there's a first for everything.. haha

Episode 5 was so good!!! I'm officially hooked. I love the relationship development between Tae Joon, Ms. Yoon, and Captain. Everyone is on point with their acting. I find Ms. Yoon so interesting in particular. She's soft-spoken and graceful yet courageous, smart, and strong. The way she constantly tilts her head and looks around is so cute too!

I watched three episodes and I can't watch any further, I dislike almost every character and I hate the storyline.…
in my opinion you should wait until episode 4 or 5 before deciding to drop this show. I personally also felt annoyed with Ji An, Dong Hoon's brothers, and the actress at the beginning, but starting from episode 5, their character developments and simple yet profound dialogues change my mind about them and this drama as a whole. This show is a slow burn, and the more it hurts / annoys you, the more it actually heals you. At least that's what happened to me lol. And if there's one thing that this show does best, the 2nd half actually gets even better and it has the most satisfying ending. I put this drama up there to the likes of Misaeng, Dear My Friends, and Mother. That's how good it is. It truly changes my perspective on humanity and love.

If watching episode 4/5 does not help you enjoy this show any better, then i guess this show is just not for you, and it's completely okay that way ^^

I woke up with a puffy face after finishing this drama. I didn't think it would be this good but boy was I wrong.…
If you watch this drama with earphones, you will notice that a lot of dialogues in this drama were actually dubbed. Not just DH... In some scenes, JA and CEO's voices were dubbed too. That's why hearing them talk feels like an ASMR experience sometimes. I'm actually not surprised why they decided to dub several scenes, considering how this drama really emphasizes and values sounds as a form of storytelling. This is the first drama that made me feel for a character's breathing sounds lol

Sharing this comment on episode 16 by Sam:

At around the 1 hour 25 minute mark, the translation is going to say "wife". However, that is not what the character says. He says "my kid's mom". There is no ambiguity whatsoever. He says "my kid's mom", NOT what he normally says to mean "wife". Also, the subtitles say "having my wife around versus not". He does NOT say that. All he says is "my kid and my kid's mom" then the sentence gets cut off. The subtitles also say "she wants to stay until college", "she's learning English", etc but that should be about the SON.

Yeah, it's common to use that to refer to a wife in Asian cultures. However, that is the only time in the entire drama where the character calls her by "my kid's mom" (ae-umma). Every other time it was chib-saram (she's even saved on his phone as chib-saram). It's a very subtle but extremely significant detail that a lot of people on Korean forums have pointed out. Keep in mind, there are many many ways to say wife in Korean. There's a-nae (아내), chib-saram (집사람), bu-in (부인), manura (마누라), waipu (와이프), cheo (처), and "my kid's mom" (애엄마). However, out of all of those, the only single one that is appropriate to refer to an ex-wife is "my kid's mom". None of the other ones are appropriate for an ex-wife. Only "my kid's mom" is. Does it mean 100% that he is divorced? No. However, it's a very important detail that implies something significant.

im glad DH decided to keep the marriage. taking their time off is a good way to bring back what was lost, and…
It was implied that Ji An did a lot of bad things in the past to pay off her debt. That's why people are making assumptions that's where she learned her shady tricks from. Explains why Ki Bum is helpful too since they grew up together and he had debts to Gwang Il's dad as well.

What a beautiful and subtle ending... It could be interpreted in so many ways. Also, it's pretty much confirmed that I (ugly) cry watching almost all of the episodes of this show. It made me reflect on life and what kind of adult I want to be. My Ajusshi will definitely remain in my heart for a long, long time. 10/10.

Just to clarify: the infidelity is between the main lead's wife and his boss. Not between the two main leads.

When you thought after episode 10 the crying fest will be over and then episode 11 hits you in the face. Lee Sun Gyun and IU absolutely nailed their scenes to the point where I just see them as Dong Hoon and Ji An.

(Kind of an off-topic here) I've recently been liking binge-watching melodramas, and now, I want to catch up with…
If you like shows that focus on complex human beings with no focus on romance, my ahjussi is the better choice. I suggest you to binge watch it slowly (like 2 episodes at a time). You get to fully enjoy the drama that way. Trust me, there's so much bleakness to take in every week, but in a weird way watching it still heals you.

Actor Kim Min Shik, a close friend of Lee Sun Gyun says “it’s really not a love line” between the main characters of My Mister. "There have been lots of malicious comments about Sun Gyun Hyung going around lately due to My Mister. I practiced the lines with him until episode 10 but it’s really not a love line (between DH and JA). It’s just that the title sounds like there is, but there isn’t. Since they kept on being misunderstood, I suggested him to change the drama title, but he told me it’s fine to just continue with it. But it’s really NOT A LOVE LINE. Since people kept on questioning it, I’ve been going around clarifying things as a comment-fighter these days. Hyung told me not to mind those comments but I couldn’t help it since the comments talked bad about people I treasure." (Translated by 4seasonswithIU on twitter)

Responding to the controversy (surrounding the age gap and violence), IU responded beautifully, “We’re not making a romance or fantasy drama, but telling a story about reality and people. It’s not a story that says, ‘Reality should be like this,’ and it’s not a beautification of reality. Rather, it’s a drama that says, ‘There is this kind of reality. How should we live?'”

I can't help but smile imagining how DH ahjussi will bring JA out of her dark shell one day. (and vice versa). How lonely and crushed she must have been all this time, without barely anyone to support her.
