I personally didn't think it was, but I'm old enough to know what actual racism is and not what people "call"…
I mean if they are going to want to be Rasta they should at least do there research. Like our dreadlocks are not really dirty. In fact, we quite like cleaning them. And I can't expect them potray it correctly but that doesn't mean I can't be offended. I showed it to one of my Jamaican family members and they were really confused and lowkey weirded out that they said that his dreadlocks had like dirt and bugs in it. Anyways, I'm fine with them having a person who is kinda Rastafarian as long as they attempt to do it right and from my point of view they kinda didn’t. Also I can't argue against Eddie Murphy playing a Jewish person because I'm not a part of the community and I might say something wrong because of my ignorance. Also that job sounds kinda cool. What did you do?
I personally didn't think it was, but I'm old enough to know what actual racism is and not what people "call"…
I mean I guess you could argue that it wasn’t as racist as some other things...? But like I'm a black person with a majority Jamaican family was offended. It had a character with a traditionally black hairstyle that could be argued as cultural appropriation rather than appreciation and either way it portrayed the hairstyle very negatively and treated it as if it was dirty. And it said that being Jamaican and Nigerian is the same thing and kind of mocked cultures from the African Diaspora. And racism changes forms over the years. If you read about the Five Fallacies of Racism in a paper called What is Racial Domination, it explains how racism changes a lot more eloquently and put together than I can. I understand your point in that it wasn't like calling you slurs racist but I don't only define racism by the really loud moments. I find that the more subtle things can add up. I tried watching more of this drama but every time that character whose name I've forgotten came up I just couldn't. ??? why did I write so much gah. Anyways, I'm trying to say I see where you're coming from and somewhat disagree.
