It was alarmingly obvious from the early episodes that the Killer was most likely a woman, given that all of the ways the murders had been comitted involved either suprise attacks from behind or methods that required little to no strength such as a gun etc. The only one that may have required a little more strength was when the woman was killed and our killer was on equal footing in terms of strength/height and weight here, and still that was from behind.

Even is she wasn't a big actress playing a minor role and just any other actress it would have still been obvious who it was from the storyline and directing. There is only woman who is planted within the entire drama and would have been told many details by I Na. And as many times as we heard the killer described as cold, calm, and haaving self control made it even more insultingly obvious. Even the misdirections were so obviously misdirections. I was hoping and praying until the 10th episode that a twist would be coming but alas...

Moreover, why not once in the official investigation by any of the seasoned detectives did it not get suggested as a possibility that the killer was a woman? Except for when I Na was a suspect. Baffling.

Flower of Evil is really a masterpiece!🩷
It really is. It's also criminally underhyped. This drama is gonna have to finish very strong to get close to matching it.
On When the Phone Rings Dec 2, 2024
I have watched a lot of Korean dramas in the past few years and from them have acquired many favourites, for example Alchemy of Souls, Mr Queen, Suspicious Partner, Atypical Family, Vincenzo, The Glory...etc

But it is very rare for me that a korean drama transcends above being a k-drama, and just becomes a drama. Most Korean dramas, no matter how good they are, fall back on the same basic principles, whether its their tropes, classic k-drama scenes, quirky comedy or wacky (only Korea could pull it off) plots. And for many of us those are reasons why we love K dramas so much. They have a unique quality that we find comfort and joy in. So that being said, its rare for me to be watching a k drama and forget that that is what I am watching, rare for a show to feel like its identity is in the storytelling, script and characters itself and not that its identity is the fact it is Korean.

Its the same for other international shows, a reason why I think so many British shows that I grew up and loved don't make it big in other countries like I feel they should is because they rely heavily on british culture, comedy and slang to help tell the story and give the show it's identity, these things are woven into the fabric of the show, things other countries just can't relate to in quite the same way, and thus it's identity as a show most times feels weak.

To date only 1.5 other korean shows made me feel the same way this drama has with it's 4 released episodes. The .5 comes from 'A Kidnapping Day' which almost broke the barrier but not quite. The only show to completely shed its 'it's a k-drama' tag for me was 'A Flower of Evil' my all time favourite. I don't know if this makes sense to anyone else or if anyone else feels the same. But I just hope this drama continues the way it's going, if it does, 'A Flower of Evil' may finally have to share top spot in my rankings.

that was so random and funny 😂 but love itYeah I felt the same in this drama didn't focus to make ML looks…
Haha I agree! His hair inparticular in this drama was exceptional in my opinion. They didnt really style it or anything just let it grow out and gave it that shaggy unkempt look and yet that was literally all it needed to make him stand out from 99.9% of other male leads in the other dramas who have either one of two hairstyles. They really got so many things right in this drama, showing the rest how you go about being 'different' in more ways than just the plot and FMC.

This may sound so random, but one of the things i enjoyed most about this drama is that the scenes where Gwi Ju was running, either to get to I Na's dance show or to the high school fire in the past, he actually was running. Not just doing some stupid slow jog in slow motion, shot in a way that is supposed to make him look handsome, but not at all athletic or desperate like many other dramas (all, not just Korean) do.

Jang Ki Young I appreciate your running acting. 10/10

*I'm saying this after just coming from another drama and seeing one of the worst "I need to save her" run i've ever seen lol. I mean really, I'd get there quicker than half of these actors if i was walking...backwards.

Title The Atypical Family Spoiler
He went from let's-wait-for-love-before-registering-the-marriage to completely besotted, all in the space of a…
I don't think the ML is besotted, at least not enough for that to be the reason he wanted to rush the wedding I actually think the writers are doing well at sticking to his character. All his life, since those flashbacks of him trying to save that dog over and over, he has been desperate to be able to use his powers to actually save someone, but he has never been able to touch anyone but the FL. Now he has it in his mind, that finally for the first time he might be able to go back and actually save a person's life. And so maybe on a day (the day of In-ha's birth) that became the worst day of his life, and an obsession with it that caused the collapse of his marriage and potentially contributed to the accident that lead to the death of In-ha's mother, just maybe there will be a small bit of meaning and purpose in all that. Maybe in his mind, it's if he can save the FL then he can find some healing, and redemption.

I also think that ML not being there for his daughter is because of guilt. He blames himself 100% for the fact she lost her mother and I don't think he could deal with it at first and was too lost in his own grief. And then just like in real life he spiraled, and before he knew it years had passed with him in the same state. There are no excuses, but situations like this are real, grief and guilt can be toxic and deadly.

As for the mother, we don't really know exactly how her power of the future works, or what exactly she saw. Maybe this scene needed to happen without interference for something else good to happen later, and she knew not to stop it. I mean this scene is a turning point with the FL confessing and being honest, and because it was her decision to come clean, rather than someone else revealing her lies, it seems more likely that this could lead to her being realistically forgiven and the romance to resume later on. This is the start of her character growth arc.

I think the writers are doing quite a good job at letting these story lines, characters and scenes play out, just like how in real life things and people are messy and never wrapped perfectly in a bow the way things and characters are written in many other dramas. For me, personally, this drama is a breath of fresh air.

Oh course people would use the lottery numbers if they could see them, but it doesn't make it right. I think the thing to take from this, given everyon'es comments and differing opinions is that good and bad sometimes can't be put on a black and white scale, it's just a lot of different grey shades, and everyone will have a different point at which they draw a line between what is acceptable and what isn't. This line won't be in the same place for everyone. Obviously what is wrong in the eyes of the law is another matter.

I really like how we are on episode 6 and they still have so much material left they can work with in this story. Usually in dramas where romance is one of the more prominent themes at epsiode 6 both leads are practically in love and starting a relationship and the story just gets dragged for another 10 episodes with silly random problems thrown at them. This is a nice change.

People forget about "character growth." They want flawless characters from the get-go. That's just boring.
It's ironic isn't it, given that some of the most liked and popular female leads were all flawed and started out in serious need of character growth. Such as Naksu from Alchemy of Souls and Moon-Young from It's Okay Not to Be Okay.

I'm only on episode 2 but i keep sighing while watching this.. the way they could've had an amazing romance buildup…
If you are after the super typical romance drama then there are about 7 billion others that are almost exactly the same layout that you could watch.

Personally I think the FL here is one of the best I''ve seen. She isn't boring, she has her own agenda, and she isn't made out to be a holier than thou person who wouldn't hurt a fly and would never do anything wrong.

Given your profile picture I thought maybe you would appreciate the FL in this. As a character she actually has some substance.

Their is just as much flaws in the characters of the ML and his family as with the FL and hers.

The ML's family (the mother particularly) has used her powers to cheat the lottery system and keep them rich, so the FL is trying to scam them out of money that in around about way they scammed for themselves anyway.

But regardless I am actually enjoying everything about this drama. I like the story line and unlike many people, I am enjoying each character, none of the side characters seem to be there purely to fill a space, they all are somewhat interesting on their own.

This is probably officially my favourite drama of the year so far, I haven't skipped a single bit of the episodes and I hate having to wait a week for the next episode. Even super popular dramas like Lovely Runner and Queen of Tears had many points that were slow and boring, where as so far I don't find that this drama has.

I always find it amazing that many people seem to dislike dramas or characters that offer something new and fresh. I love dramas like this, that are so different from the usual oerused template.

Does anyone understand why I-na wants Dahae back in the house and likes her despite knowing she's a scammer?p.s.…
Probably because she was the first person in years that seemed to make an effort with her, or constantly tried to make her feel noticed (even though I-na new it wasn't without other intentions).

I get it, I do. So far from what we have been seen, the FL's actions are not okay. But it has been 2 episodes, just 2. We so far, have very limited facts and background context. Also I have seen so so many k dramas with plots like these except usually it is the ML lead that starts off with ulterior motivations and then falls in love and stops the plan. And I see barely any one say anything about it then, not nearly to the scale of the way this FL character is being attacked and name called. It is quite frightening how quick people are to judge with mere surface level information.

Maybe, just maybe this drama will devlop and teach us to stop being so quick to judge and condemn people until we know the full story and resons behind someone's actions. Maybe, just maybe everything will be made clear with time.

I don't get it she is not a prostitute
I think this topic is a difficult one as so many people will have contrasting views. Scamming people out of money is of course a crime, but we have yet to find out just how the FL got into this situation with this 'made family'. I am sure we will come to understand this. Also we have no idea how they 'choose their targets' maybe they chose known cheaters, violent men etc. I am sure this will get revealed at some point too. Nor do we know why this family was chosen for that matter, I am sure we will find this out too. Maybe there is no reason, or maybe there is something else we don't know yet given this is only Episode 2.

I would also say if the ML's family got rich because of a superpower, seeing the future, then that could COULD be considered morally grey also. I am not saying they should get scammed, I'm just pointing out that the family could have some hidden secrets we don't know too.

As for the topic outside of this drama, condemming s*x workers, or calling it very bad and ashaming for people to have s*x with someone only for money is a little ignorant and short sighted. Firstly s* work or prostituation is a situation in which both people agree on a trade off. One is not taking someone's money without giving something the other person agreed to. Not everyone has the luxury of giving their body to someone they love, for many people in the world their body is the only thing they have to make money. This is a tuly sad fact of life for many. I would worry about anyone getting into s*x work purely because of how high risk a job and poitentially dangerous it is. But I would never shame someone for having to make a decision like this. I don't believe it is right or fair to shame anyone who is just doing whatever they can in order to fight to give themselves a better life (as long as they are not hurting someone) which is a goal that almost every single person on the planet shares.

As for the Drama maybe it will teach us a lesson about not judging a situation based on only a surface level view or basic information. I highly suspect that with the back story we will come to understand each characters life decision and the paths that led them here, and then maybe we will find empathy, sadness and understading in their actions rather than branding them criminals, prostitutes, honey traps etc after getting the smallest handful of information and surface level gimpse of their character. Though if the drama does do this remains to be seen, but at least we should hold such harsh judgement until we have all the information.

It isn't that she saw it before it happened. She saw it as it happened. In her timeline he saved her in the present as the scene was happening, but in his timeline he didn't do it in the present, he did it somedays later (in his future) by going back to the past. Which is why at the time he had no clue what she was talking about. Does that make sense? The whole concept can be a little confusing.

Title The Atypical Family Spoiler
So after watching Ep.2 one of my theories about Yi Na is that she already has her superpowers and her power is that she is either able to be invisible or has mind control/bring things she wishes into fruition. Although I am not sure it is voluntarily yet or that she has control over it.

In this episode it is clear that she isn't well known by her classmates, the teacher didn't see her raise her hand in class, the girls closed a door on her even though she was right behind them, and the girl in the dance class didn't know who she was even though she was in the same class as her. This could be just representing her social awkwardness and the idea that she is in socially invisible to her peers or it could be that for phases of time she becomes invisible against her control, maybe both.

I also think that in the flashback to the accident where her mother died, we saw her mother looking back at her in the rearview mirror just as he eyes flashed blue. I think in this moment she went invisible and it shocked her mother so much so that she lost focus and lost control of the car, causing the accident as a result. Or it could be as her Dad had just told her he was leaving again, she didn't want him to leave and in her mind somehow made the wish that her mother would stop driving, or that they wouldn't reach their destination so he couldn't leave and thus the car crashed.

I am not 100% sure if Yi Na is aware this is her ability, but the resentment she felt towards herself when she said she didn't deserve a birthday gift (perhaps believing it her fault her mother died) makes me think she does. She just doesn't have control over it yet, nor has she told anybody. And if her power is the mind control/speaking things into happening it makes sense why she doesn't speak much, and is so reserved, She is afraid or her powers. it would certainly make it clear why she hasn't told her grandmother about them who would certainly make her use then when quite clearly she is afraid of them and what she can do.

I also believe that like some other people the ML and FL have an interaction in the past (but only in the FL's past as of yet, though I don't think she knows it is him). It is clear the FL is afraid of fire's, we saw a flashback of what looked like her being in a smoke filled scene that looked like a school hallway. And in the hospital scene at Yi Na's birth you saw smoke from a fire in the background. He mentioned that his happiest moments are always someone else's unhappy ones. I believe this is the fire that the FL experienced, the same day as Yi Na's birth.

I think in the future we will see the ML go back to this birth scene (which has clearly been too devestating for him ever since the death of his wife) in order to save the FL. Since he is able to touch her in the past. Obviously in this timeline for the FL a person (who she doesn't know is ML) will have already saved her but in the ML's timeline he hasn't done it yet.

Just a few theories I think have strong potential. Anybody else read into it like this?
On Strong Girl Nam Soon Nov 26, 2023
After the first 2-4 episodes I came on here and saw all the comments were raving about how this was so much better than its predecessor Strong Woman Do Bong Soon and I was like 'Huh? We cannot be watching the same show.' From the start it was clear that the FL was going to be annoying, the character the ML was given (whether he was written that way, who knows) was just bland and honestly kind of unappealing. The plot, powers and over the top affects were only worsening the drama, it's like they were trying to one up Bong Soon and instead were pushing themselves further below it. This series didn't have the chemistry, the same sinister nail-biting thriller aspect, the authenticity or the great comedic-emotive acting as Bong Soon.

And even though Byeon Woo Seok placed his role well, the 'villain' that had been written for him. Well even that was wishy washy, he was sort of good and misunderstood, but then he was just pure bad, he was redeemable, but then he was just a psychopath. BWS did the best he could with a badly written role and the fact that the 'villian' responsible for really hurting people (whatever his sad backstory may have been) was the only one people were rooting for in this drama shows how bad it was written.

Everything about this drama, the acting, the writing, the effects, the plot, the emotions, the lasting impression was ALL. JUST. WEAK.

Do yourself a favour, just re-watch Do Bong Soon and don't watch this, in fact just remove it from your reality and pretend that this series was never made.
On Kill Me, Heal Me Sep 26, 2023
God the screeching and screaming of the female lead in this drama is actually painful. How the director's and producer's decided to allow the actress to keep making these god awful noises is beyond me. The FL is supposed to be a professional doctor and psychiatrist for god sake. I've never witnessed an actress murder a role as badly as Hwang Jung Eum in this one. It makes it almost physical torture on watchers to try and stick through it for Ji Sung. After all it's not just painful for the ears but for the eyes as well. I actually enjoyed her acting in Secret, and although it wasn't the best I'd seen I felt promise for her future roles. I did not expect to be this disappointed in her portrayal here. And I will now hesitate before watching any more of her dramas. Unless she is ever cast as a banshee, that role she might actually be perfect for.

I've seen many comments regarding female leads before and while i have also found them often annoying, they have been bearable and none have ever been as terrible as in this drama. A twenty-something female lead screaming like a newborn infant every 6 minutes is not comedy, it's not good television, it's not even average television, it's a tragedy and stain on everything else good about this drama.
