I also thought of other 2 endings:
1. in which he dies and the girl goes on with her life, but she remembers him and misses him every time she is at the tree. Maybe also on the celebration of their anniversaries.

2. But now I'm thinking, the last scene might be on the day of their 2nd year anniversary, where she wants to tell him how much she still loves him and misses him, but the guy might be already dead.

Imagine what would it do to the story if you told the girl that she should just wait at the other side of the road 😂
