As for editing subs: to shift the timing I usually use visualsubsync.
You might have to do some reading before, but it's actually the best tool for timing issues (in my opinion - I've been a timer for fansub groups a few years back, so I tried a lot of programs). And it's not sooo difficult to use~~ ^^
