I’m really sorry you’re going through this too. And no, you’re definitely not imagining it. People who don’t have this condition don’t really understand how it feels, but I do and everything you described is real. It’s honestly so hard sometimes. Just two days ago I was in the airport holding my nephew and my sister was talking to me for minutes, and I had no idea. She eventually stopped because I wasn’t replying. My other sister noticed and told me about it later. I felt so bad, even though it wasn’t my fault.
It can be exhausting constantly missing things or having to explain yourself. You’re not alone in this.
This is the first time I’ve seen a character with the same condition as me, and I actually teared up. I could relate to him so much, it felt like I was seeing myself from someone else’s point of view. I don’t mind not being able to hear from one ear, but sometimes it gets really hard. Everything he said when he was talking to her felt so true. Sometimes the noises get so overwhelming that I even catch myself thinking it would be easier to just be fully deaf instead of constantly struggling with sound on one side.
