Watched this on netflix after loving the sequel at the Japan film festival in my country. It was alright, I actually think the sequel is a lot better, and you don't have to have watched this movie to understand what's going on or to appreciate it.
Wow, what a really good first episode. There's one big thing that didn't get translated in the eng sub version…
Shiro goes into some guy's hotel room/apartment, and as they head towards the bed it pans to the TV, where the same guy is making an announcement. The captions on that tv broadcast state it is the prime minister speaking. I'm 99% sure that instead of 'he' in the subs in this part it should be 'I'.

It's a variety series starring the members of naniwa danshi, the comedy duo 'new york' and a cute announcer (idk her name I can't read the kanji lol) . the series mainly focuses on the theme of what's common/trending with young people, and comparing that to previous generations and what the hosts of the show have experienced. Usually they bring in/follow/interview/focus on a few non-celebrities per episode and follow their story.
Enjoyed watching the first episode but to be honest it's very cliche, generic and predictable lol. they do a good job of it though (in terms of acting, cinematography, music etc).
Just a warning: I think the synopsis for the 1986 version of this on MDL might spoil this movie a little bit (haven't seen it, but if it's similar to the 1986 version then maybe it does spoil it...)
I didn't expect to enjoy this drama this much! But it looks like the 4th episode is gonna be delayed? (don't know…
yeah I heard it might be because of the election in Japan that's happening over the weekend. Not sure of any other details though and that's just from a comment I read somewhere
CHEMISTRY DOES NOT EQUAL SEXUAL ASSAULT JESUS CHRIST
We're shown straightaway that Shirasu Jin's character is an asshole who plays with women, yet his taking advantage of the protagonist continuously gets glorified! (Not even just talking about the kiss - asking to keep touching her hair when she's upset and vulnerable is creepy as fuck). Not to mention he kissed her after knowing that she's 'not the type to talk back' and even when she tried to pull away he kept at it. But his character is constantly glorified and we hear happy music and sound effects playing over the top. What the fuck is with this writer and problematic relationships? (See guilty: Kono koi wa tsumi desu ka?.)
