I was a little confused with the ending...

Did he run away because of the violence? That he was getting beaten up because he found out he was gay and was worried for his own safety if anyone found out that he was also gay and that they both have been hooking up?

or did he run away because he was upset that that guy was doing the same thing to other guys that he was doing to him?
