This ending really is perfect. I tell you why.. You see from his childhood, he is thought that his life goal is to slay demons. And save the earth from black fox. He is emotionally blackmailed (sort of) that his mother died while giving birth to him. So if he actually killed the niang niang foxy then what is there in his life? He never lived his life for himself. Never played like a child. He didn't experience love or freedom. He did, for a short time after ep 12. But his early 20 years are gone. So if he lived, there won't be anything worth living for.
Specially where he has no father, lover or brother anymore.

Cheng Yi: What attracted me most about Wang Quan Fugui was that he was strong yet not arrogant, gentle yet principled. As a "soldier," he should have been a law-abiding and ruthless demon-killing weapon, but he dared to break the rules, seeking his own path amidst limitations. He treated the world as an equal, possessing the sharpness and courage of the strong, as well as the warmth of an ordinary person.
Q: During the acting process, did you take "character notes" to understand the character's state? For example, what do you think are the most important keywords for Fugui?
Cheng Yi: I did take character notes regularly. I think Fugui is a tolerant and rebellious person. He is quite strong, yet gentle towards the world. He doesn't look down on others because of his strength, nor does he hold grudges because he hasn't experienced the love and happiness of ordinary life.
