I loved this drama too... And I really appreciated your analysis. You articulated a lot of what I thought--but yours was much more clearly delineated. The article content was very strong and you crafted a very user-friendly structure for us to read it. I was incredibly impressed by your organization and formatting--which worked equally well in light and dark mode. If your dissertation reflects the strength of your writing here, it's going to be most excellent. I hope to see more articles from you in the future!
thanks for making this list public! I've been in a bit of a slump with dramas, but I've really liked the two jdramas that I pulled from here. Feels great to have something I'm excited about watching AND I don't have to wait from week to week for the next episode.
Mix is studying to be a vet so he's referred to as a doctor.
Just had a friend (I'm in the US) tell me yesterday that the local uni's vet training cost @ $280K and graduates expect to earn around $60K annually. If her husband weren't earning some good $$$, she couldn't have completed the program or managed the debt...continued to elaborate that only people seriously passionate about the field go into it because of this. There are a lot of more lucrative and easier options [in her words]. I loved your question.
And because I feel like it, I made a thread out of all the names: https://kisskh.at/discussions/a-tale-of-a-thousand-stars/59617-name-s-translation-just-to-be-romantic
thanks so much for this thread! It made this already great drama even richer with nuance I hadn't considered before.
thanks for such a thorough and persuasive article! I really loved Eternal Love & Ashes of Love, but I put this on hold after 10 episodes. I was wary of the roller coaster I knew was coming. But you've convinced me to revisit it. much appreciated!
I've had this on my plan to watch list on VIKI- mostly because of Leo Luo and the plot seemed moderately interesting. But I haven't gotten around to actually watching. Unfortunately, now I'm even more conflicted about whether I should.
Thanks for the honest review! If I do view it, at least I'll have a better idea of what I'm getting into.
10. https://kisskh.at/38061-no-second-chanceOr a wild card Taiwanese Family Drama https://kisskh.at/18596-better-man
I was surprised how much I enjoyed Better Man. It's one of those dramas that hasn't blurred with all the others I've watched. Glad to see you recommend it!
It’s funny because when you did your little “close your eyes“ math problem I couldn’t really think a lot…
y...I could remember exactly 2 scenes from the 347+ days worth of dramas I've watched (although given the swimming team/themed shows and some of the more recent Thai dramas I've watched I know I've seen tons more). I can recall Kim Hyung Joong putting on his shirt (just getting dressed in the morning) in Boys Over Flowers; the other that comes to mind is George Hu in a shower scene from Love Now. And I remember the second one mostly because the FL was so aggressive...
I laughed so hard. I loved your analogies, especially for China and Thailand. I just want to add, for China sometimes…
what a great addition to this very well-crafted analogy... your suggestion covers the sometimes painfully poor visual effects or random things like everyone having the same distinctive ringtone (love designer)
do you have a thai drama with the same story " boss employe relation "
I'm new to Thai dramas as well. I keep referring to this article by Brownie to try and distinguish between series and lakorns. I still don't have it down, but the article might help you get started.
Cons with some Jdramas, you can't watch them because you won't be able to find them with sub *cough*MIU404*cough*
or even worse, starting a J-drama and really liking it, then realizing that it has only been partially subbed. I've done this a couple times when I carelessly assumed that the entire drama had been subbed. oh the agony...
