this is a 47 episodes drama... we still have a long way to go. if you don't want the early episodes to carefully craft the world for us and properly introduce us to the characters, what do you expect to watch in the second half when there is no more plot left? everything can't just be action, action, and action all the time. this is a characters-driven story. perhaps this isn't the drama for you.

omg it's amazing! beautiful cinematography, high-quality production, wonderful acting, endearing characters, and a strong introduction. it looks like this will be one of those multi-generational / family-oriented dramas that not only follow the lives of our main leads, but also their family members too. based on your watchlist, i think you like stories with ensemble casts, right? you'll enjoy this. do give it a try when you have the time!

I think that's because it was originally a rebirth story where the fl dies and gets reborn. however, the rebirth element was removed for the adaptation, so we can probably just consider this drama as historical fiction without any fantasy.

true. but what i meant was, everyone zhao ling loved was there at his wedding except for his parents (who died when he was young) and yucheng (who died for zhao ling way too soon and never got to share in his glory.) but seeing zhao ling use yucheng's sword during his wedding day was as if yucheng was there in spirit. the symbolism was what got to me.

he didn't spawn out of nowhere. our leads met him when they were trying to hide from danger in that one abandoned place back in the earlier episodes. he was part of the emperor's salt investigation team (when the emperor was still a crown prince). he was the one always hanging out with general mo and always giving the emperor advice. except he had hair then, so maybe that is why he looks different to you now lol.

such a subtle but meaningful tribute to yucheng. 🥺

that sword that zhao ling used was yucheng's.

zhao ling used it to break down the door. he used it to split the shotgun in half. that sword protected him and helped pave the way for his happiness... just like yucheng did many times before.

yucheng was there with him that day. 😭

it was SO satisfyinggg. one of my highlights of today's eps! 😂

our guy doesn't tolerate men who abuses women and he especially HATES those who disrespects or threatens tingyun and anyone tingyun loves. 👏👏👏

for me, each episode is better than the last. i get frustrated with certain characters, but never disappointed by the direction of the story. such a beautifully captivating drama!

in the drama, zhao ling said he didn't want tingyun or her mother to have a lifetime of regret. it was why he went out of his way to have her mother present for her big day.

hearing about the novel's version of the event makes the drama's version more beautiful and bittersweet. i'm really thankful the director made the changes. at least in one alternative universe, both mother and daughter were able to celebrate together. 😭
