At my high school and others I know, school athletes were required to attend regular gym classes.
Generally you don't have athletes attend gym classes to avoid an accidental injury.

I reallylike this drama overall despite the plot issues like an athlete attending a gym class when he would be exempt to practice or like an athlete being treated like a regular student esp if they are in a program/school that generates national athletes.
