There are 2 kinds of shows precedural and serialized. When a tv show is procedural it has a specific format like for example in medical shows where there is a different patient in each episode and the story unfolds in one episode and in the next there is a new one etc. In serialized shows there is a continuing plot that unfolds as the shows progresses. I am not sure if i explained it very well
