Ending of episode 6 was a major soul crusher

After rewatching ending or episode 6, I realized that Putter probably wanted to ask for them to get back together, but Lee quickly rushed and cut him off thinking that Putter wanted to ask for them to be friends. He( Lee) wanted to be the one to say they should go back to being friends because he felt hearing it from Putter would hurt him really bad.
