On The Red Sleeve Talk Show Jan 31, 2022
I don’t know about you guys but I was disappointed with the special. I expected way more. They only asked a couple of fan questions out of the MANY questions I saw online. I wanted them to ask a lot more than that. I thought we were going to have something like a mini presscon and have 30-40 minutes dedicated to fan Q/A. Plus, we already knew a lot of the information that was discussed. It was just so repetitive. What’s worse is that they pretty much spoiled everything in the teasers/photos that were released before airing so when I was watching, it just wasn’t as exciting anymore. The only highlight was when Lee Se Young and Lee Junho played Cham Cham Cham and Shouting in Silence, which again was spoiled through teasers/photos. Cham Cham Cham between Lee Se Young and Yoon Hyo Sik was also cut out and didn’t make it to the official broadcast. MBC really need to improve with their variety shows. Even their Radio Star guesting was a disaster. The MCs were asking the same old questions. Can’t they think of different questions? I shouldn’t have expected much since it’s MBC we’re talking about here. I just expected way more than what we got.

I'm rooting for her! But it does suck that in Korea, someone as talented as her is going to have to do some meh…
Hahaha all good. No rush. I didn’t even notice how long my comment was until you mentioned it. It is actually quite long. Sorry. Lol. 🤣

Yes! Good choices. I also want her to work with Yang Se Jong, Lee Jong Suk (again but in a drama), Wi Ha Joon,…
Omg really? Lol. But right?! See the potential of these pairings?! I just know she’ll have good chemistry with anyone she works with since she’s good at building rapport with her co-stars. Too bad most of them are already working on a drama and Seo Kang Joon recently started his military service. So it definitely won’t be happening anytime soon. 😭

Yes it’ll be hard to beat the chemistry LSY and LJH had. So it’ll definitely be hard to move on but I’m sure once LSY gets casted in a new drama, we’ll be able to move on (I hope). 🤣

Yeah I heard! I’m glad the two actors who were offered the script first rejected it. There’s literally no one better that could’ve portrayed Deok Im and San any better. I hope LSY has got just as many offers as LJH and I hope there’s news that she’s been casted in a new drama at least. I’m excited to find out who her next co-star will be!

Since the drama’s success surpassed MBC’s standards/expectations, I wonder if MBC will be able to fulfil their promise in giving the cast an overseas trip?

True. She hasn’t got much CFs/fashion deals while Junho on the other hand has already done quite a few. I wonder why? TRS is such a huge success. I’m surprised that she hasn’t done at least one CF. She’s done a lot of magazine shoots though, which is good. I’m just hoping she gets more endorsements though so her brand reputation value will increase.

Some take less than that though. So let’s hope it doesn’t take long for them to reunite. For example, it didn’t take long for Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin to reunite. After they both starred in the movie ā€œThe Negotiationā€ in 2018, they worked together again the following year in ā€œCrash Landing On Youā€. Go Min Si and Lee Do Hyun didn’t take long to reunite either. They have already worked with each other 3 times within a span of two years. I think it just depends on the actors’ schedules and the determination of the actors themselves. They need to be both on the same page. If they’re both happy with the script, I’m sure there’s no reason for them to reject and not reunite anytime soon in the near future. Hopefully it doesn’t take long for LSY and LJH to reunite. I don’t mind waiting for a couple of years though. I want LSY to work with other actors first and have many more accomplishments/achievements in her long-standing career.

I actually don’t think LSY was overshadowed, maybe in episode 12 but that’s pretty much it. It was mainly because it was an episode for San to ascend the throne though so it’s understandable. My main concern though was the fact that she hardly got any screen time in that episode. I get that the episode was important for San to become King but that doesn’t mean they had to give her little screen time. They treated her like she was a supporting character in that episode. On a positive note though, she was at least able to get the sympathy and heart of the viewers. At the end of the day, getting the sympathy and heart of the viewers is more important than more screen time. Her incredible acting/eye acting was also noticed from the netizens/viewers. So at least she got the attention of the audience in that way.

Amen to more high quality scripts! I really want to see her work with Son Ye Jin if there’s ever a chance. I also want to see her in challenging roles like a dual role, any action roles like an assassin or a professional boxer, or portraying a character with a mental illness perhaps? I think those roles will push her to become an even more excellent/versatile actress.

I want her to work with Lee Jehoon, Namgoong Min or Doh Kyungsoo. It would be great.
Yes! Good choices. I also want her to work with Yang Se Jong, Lee Jong Suk (again but in a drama), Wi Ha Joon, Kim Bum and Seo Kang Joon.

Totally agree! I hope her career just keeps soaring from here and gets a lot of casting offers. I wonder if she was already offered some scripts and is just on a break?

With The Red Sleeve’s success, I mean I did have a feeling it was going to be a masterpiece/good drama since it’s LSY and I trust her choices when it comes to picking a good, high quality script, but I did not expect the drama to be this big/successful! I’m beyond proud and happy for her and only wish the best for her career. I hope it continues to flourish to the point that a lot more people will appreciate her work and becomes a trusted/respected actress. She’s not an A-lister yet is she? I hope she will be an A-lister soon! She deserves it! Her acting is way better than a lot of the actors that are A-listers. Cough cough* Song Hye Kyo. No offence to her fans, but her acting is so stiff and lacks emotion.

I heard about her wanting to a romcom specifically with Junho, which I don’t mind since she’s been doing a lot of serious dramas that are emotionally and physically draining. So something light can give her a break from that. I just hope it’s descent and the romance/comedy isn’t over the top. But since Seyoung is such an excellent actress, I’m sure she’ll make anything work.

And yes! I want Seyoung to star in dramas where she’s actually the lead character or first in the credits! In all of her dramas, the ML tends to be the lead of the show but it’s not surprising since most KDramas are like that, and a lot of them are male centric too so the ML tends to outshine the FL. Lucky LSY makes the most out of the situation and gives it her all when she acts. So it doesn’t feel like the ML outshines her character when I watch her. Anyway, I’m just happy that she’s getting more recognised now. It was long overdue.

Just saw this compilation of a lot of her crying scenes from Doctor John and it made me remember how good and effective of an actress LSY is at emotional scenes! I was getting emotional just from watching this. Makes me want to watch the drama again. 😭

I agree with you! Just to add on from what you said, I’m also worried she might have to make poor choices when it comes to scripts just to increase popularity. She already chooses good scripts as it is. I hope the quality of the scripts that she chooses doesn’t lower in quality. Most popular actors/A-listers have done several comedies/romcoms that became hits, which made them become more popular and who they are today. I’m afraid LSY might have to take the same route just to get more attention/popular. I’m not against romcoms/comedies. It’s just most of the time they like to exaggerate the comedy or make the romance extremely cheesy. I like how she doesn’t stick to the same genre or romcom/comedy like most people though. It’s what sets her apart from the rest and standout. She actually steps out of her comfort zone and always tries something different, which just shows that she’s very versatile, not afraid to take risks and has a lot to offer as an actress. Too bad people (both globally and in Korea) don’t appreciate that. She might have to change her strategy and conform to what everyone else is doing, which I really hope she doesn’t. LSY has had so many great dramas from The Crowned Clown to Doctor John, Memorist, Kairos and now The Red Sleeve. She’s been on fire choosing her dramas ever since 2019 and knows how to choose a good script. Let’s hope she doesn’t ruin her streak.

Love Lee Seyoung’s acting and personality. I wanna see her in a good female-centric drama. It could be a rom-com,…
I second this! I’m also thinking something like Charlie’s Angels would be good too.

Both are great dramas but if you’re watching this for LSY, you will not be satisfied. She does not get much screen time in the last few episodes and the story mainly focuses on the ML. The cinematography and OST are excellent. The pacing is also good, it’s not too slow or as fast as The Red Sleeve.

Some differences between the two dramas: LSY plays Queen here (totally opposite from her character in The Red Sleeve), there’s no difference in social status between the leads in The Crowned Clown and are both treated as equals while in The Red Sleeve there were, The Crowned Clown focuses more on the politics while The Red Sleeve mainly focuses on the romance. With that being said, they’re both completely different dramas plot wise.

Some similarities: both dramas have power struggles surrounding the throne and people who want to assassinate the King, both Kings are quite aggressive, both dramas tackle the hidden/mistaken identity trope. In The Crowned Clown they keep the secret for a long time while in The Red Sleeve the secret was revealed very quickly.

Overall, both are worth watching. It just depends on your personal preferences and what you look for in a drama. For LSY though, I definitely preferred her in The Red Sleeve. She has way more screen time and her acting was outstanding and has improved a lot since The Crowned Clown (her first major lead role). She has grown so much as an actress. You can see the fine details she puts into her acting. I really loved her micro-expressions, hand gestures and eye acting. You can really feel the emotion and what the character is going through.

I’m so happy and proud of her! The Red Sleeve was a huge success and ended with 17.4% ratings! I’ve watched almost all her dramas (main role) and I can say that her performance in The Red Sleeve is her peak (so far). She really outdid herself, especially in the last two episodes! She blew me away with her acting! She’s an excellent actress! I only hope she gets more known/recognised from now on! She deserves all the success and I’m excited to see her next projects!

I wonder what her next drama will be, a modern one??
I wanna see her do a legal drama (since she hasn’t done one yet), a role with a mental illness/disability, dual role (like in Hwayugi) or an action drama with a badass character (something like an assassin). Since she said she wants to debut as a boxer, I also want to see her portray a character that’s a boxer. Other random roles that I want her to try out: ballerina, gangster, homeless person or her disguised as a man. LOL. Didn’t notice how long my list got until now but yeah, I want her to try out all these roles if she gets the chance to.

Memorist is good but since you’ve already seen it, you should start Kairos! It’s fast paced and has good cliffhangers that will make you want to keep pressing the next episode.

Lee Se Young deserves a standing ovation for her outstanding acting skills in Episode 17! She absolutely crushed it! Her acting in that episode alone deserves a daesang/baeksang nomination! What a talented/versatile actress! She deserves more dramas/projects. Excited to see what else she can offer as an actress in her future projects! šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ”„ā¤ļø

Title The Red Sleeve Spoiler
Just finished watching episode 16 (will watch episode 17 later today) and boy was that bittersweet. Lee Se Young does an excellent job at expressing emotion. While Deok Im is somewhat happy, she can never be truly happy and that’s what breaks my heart. A part of her will always be sad because she couldn’t go back to the life she had. So in the scene where Deok Im is waving back at her friends, we see 18 year old Deok Im waving back at 30 year old Deok Im and that was when she realised that, that part of her can never come back and it was time to say goodbye. She knew what she would’ve lost if she became his concubine. She couldn’t protect the life she had chosen. šŸ’” That was such a beautiful scene that I cried! Deok Im deserves so much better! 😭
