If a drama is poorly executed, no amount of defending will save it from flopping in the ratings...
So to all the haters out there trying so hard to tank this show with your hate comments, if a drama is high quality, IT'S HIGH QUALITY! AHAHAHAHHAHAH..... stay mad & peace out 🤟🏻😘🤟🏻
In my opinion, this drama isn't bad, but it can't really be called great either. Why? Because:1. The main leads…
That's the thing—because of that minor costume controversy while shooting, people had already lowered their expectations for MOLI. When I said "exceeded expectations", I meant in terms of the plot, chemistry, and production execution. Idk about other international fans, but Indonesian C-drama fans were insanely invested and tuning in week-to-week while it was ongoing!
Interestingly, a lot of viewers actually binged it a few days after the final episode dropped.
Trust me, Fake It Till You Make It (2023) gives off the exact same vibe as this one, and the chemistry is super spicy too! You can give it a watch while waiting for the next episodes to drop!!
Since I got spoiled before it even aired that the drama would have a tragic ending—especially for the main couple,…
YESSS! I've liked him for so long, but Overdo really solidified that I'm obsessed with XZX... OMGGG WHY IS HE SO DAMN FINE?! Ngl, every single male lead in this drama is gorgeous, but LI BOZE hits completely different, HE IS SO FUCKING ATTRACTIVE!!!!!! OMG WE BELIEVE IN XU ZHENXUAN SUPREMACY!!!"🔥🔥🔥😫⚠️😍😘🤒🥵🫰🏻🫰🏻🫰🏻Honestly can't wait to see him in The Spring of Blades now!! He's gonna kill it!

You're so welcome, I'm really glad if that helped you out!
As for the dramas I mentioned earlier, POJ stands for Pursuit of Jade, starring Zhang Linghe as the male lead!
As for MOLI, the English title is The First Jasmine. 'Moli' is just the pinyin from the Chinese title! Oh, by the way, a little backstory on MOLI and why I mentioned it as a high-anticipation drama: the original novel has a massive fanbase, and readers swore it was top-tier, so naturally expectations were sky-high! Plus, the leads are Bai Lu (everyone's sweetheart) and Cheng Lei (who's been steadily rising since 2023 to now, especially after his GOAT-level popularity in The Legend of Female General).
However, during MOLI's filming, there was a minor scandal about their costumes being 'too simple' for an S+ budget drama... which honestly made fans a bit disappointed and lowered their expectations. But plot twist! The chemistry between Bai Lu and Cheng Lei ended up being completely out of this world lol, and the story turned out to be an absolute banger!! It's not overly heavy, but the mystery aspect is executed so well that it keeps you hooked every single episode ahahahah.
As for VOS, which is Veil of Shadows... honestly, you can never doubt GJM's works. GJM stands for Guo Jingming / Edward Guo, who is super famous Director for his hits like My Journey to You (2023) and Fangs of Fortune (2024). All three of his dramas share that iconic 'fancy dark cinematography' vibe—you should definitely give it a try when you have time!
And as a director, GJM has three upcoming dramas: Hidden Shadow, Removing Armor, and Bai Yao Pu (which actually just started filming recently), and I honestly feel like true C-drama lovers must be waiting for these so bad!
In my opinion, this drama isn't bad, but it can't really be called great either. Why? Because:
1. The main leads are currently rising in popularity, especially ZLH! He has so many obsessed fans now, so naturally, a lot of people were waiting for this! 2. The female lead (WCR) is insanely gorgeous. In her previous drama, her visual aura wasn't 100% unleashed yet. I know there are many beautiful actresses out there, but I think Wang Churan's outfits here are top-tier and really match her expensive aura! 3. Tons of clips circulated before the drama even aired—a.k.a. promotional videos—which raised fans' expectations even higher. The Reuters/behind-the-scenes clips looked amazing, and if you watched the teaser or trailer... you'd honestly think this series was going to be mind-blowing!
What really confuses me though is that their BTS clips and real-life interactions show insane chemistry, but in the show itself, it falls flat. I unironically enjoyed the second couple's chemistry (Xu Zhenxuan and Wang Zisu) way more, even though both couples serve that love-hate dynamic!
So basically, fans' expectations were set way too high (including mine), which I think is totally valid given how they promoted it. This series is still worth watching, but it's definitely not a top-tier drama...
But honestly, besides Overdo, there are still plenty of dramas that raised high expectations yet managed to exceed them—like POJ (5M reservations?), MOLI (5M?), and VOS (3M?), The First Frost (over 7.5M), CMIIW
Oh right, a quick thought on TFF....even with all the hype, so many people were lowkey skeptical about whether BJT could deliver as SANG YAN... he even got hate for it just because people were biased toward the Hidden Love's Sang Yan. You know how toxic hardcore fans can be...Personally, I wasn't worried at all. I’ve seen enough of BJT’s dramas before TFF to know he was gonna nail the role of Sang Yan completely!
And yeah, he totally proved them wrong! That’s honestly why TFF still managed to blow past expectations, despite how high the bar was set by fans (especially the Hidden Love fandom)!

8.7 LETSS GAURRRR!!

why am I being this dramatic when we still have 14 episodes to go lolll... why isn't this a 40-episode drama instead AHAHAHA!
NO SKIPS AT ALL, EVERY SONG IS A MASTERPIECE!
OST lovers will absolute adore this!
This reminds me of the OST lineup for Dazzling where every single track was an absolute BANGER too!!
