He was planning to fake her father’s death. He did not want to subject Ming Tan to that trauma and pain.
Her godfather didn’t actually poison her father, (that was Jiang Cu’s schemes) so in a sense, he shouldn’t be going to prison for it. Though his list of crimes is very long and he should be in prison for other reasons.
And yes, Jiang Xu should have told her, but I think he is very used to his stealth assignments that he wanted to do all of this before Ming Tan found out to prevent her any more pain or hassle. Unfortunately, it did not work out very well for him since she decided to sneak into prison to see her father. I agree that he should have told her. He will do lots of apologizing soon based on the previews.
How exactly FL's father died? Can someone explain to me?
Jiang Xu and Emperor planned Ming Tan’s father’s death and Ming Tan’s father is in on it. They set a trap for Premier Su , who is Ming Tan’s evil godfather, so they can borrow more time to investigate. Hence why the Emperor also sent HuaiYu to investigate Lizhou tax fraud.

I’m sorry I’m a little confused by your questions.

Ming Tan would probably find out eventually about her father’s death, but the way she find out and how it all went down was very traumatic and abrupt, giving Jiang Xu zero time to calmly tell her or explain anything. He did not want her to witness her father’s actual dead body. I would want to shield her from that too or delay telling her as long as possible. They still had 3 days until Ming Tan’s father was going to be executed. Hope that helps!
please tell me are they still fighting?? I’m scared to watch today’s episode 🥲🥲. she seem like she wanted…
Don’t be scared. The drama is angsty right now, and yes they are still “fighting,” but it’s not irreparable. It’s actually the perfect amount of angst right now, though if you want to wait for resolution, I would advise to wait and watch all of it in one go tomorrow. Seems it may be resolved by then based on previews.
I’m so happy to be right about Ming Tan’s dad as well as Jiang Xu and the Emperor’s plans! I loved the scene…
One more thing! I love how the show expanded on Ming Tan’s relationship with her father and explained his reasoning behind leaving Ming Tan in the capitol. Like wow. Their father daughter bond is so beautiful. The little tiger toy, too. Hit me right in the heart. I can’t wait for them to reunite soon!
I’m honestly pretty impressed with eps 16 and 17. Wow. Plot is plotting and my tears are flowing. Spoiler below.
I’m so happy to be right about Ming Tan’s dad as well as Jiang Xu and the Emperor’s plans! I loved the scene between Ming Tan and her godfather and how she gave the jade bracelet back. I also LOVED the showdown between Ming Tan’s father and Premier Su. Two great actors displaying the raw tension and emotions of lifetime friends who have turned on each other. I love the Emperor and Jiang Xu enlisting Huaiyu’s expertise with the tax fraud. Some really great character development for him coming, I hope. I have really grown to enjoy Huaiyu and Minmin’s storyline. It was done so well how he gave her all of his most valued belongings to care for and the message that Yunyi passed on for Minmin was sooooooo funny. Did not expect that from Yunyi haha. Man, our 3 male leads are all down BAD.
As for Ming Tan and Jiang Xu, I am hurting so much for my baby girl Ming Tan. She didn’t really take it out on Jiang Xu, but she is finding it hard to trust anyone now after witnessing how her ex Godfather treated her dad (misunderstanding that Premier Su poisoned her father). I can see where her faith has been shaken and she is truly just wanting to grieve her father. No more father and Marquis estate, no more marriage contract. I’m glad the show left it right on the edge of conflict but no big dramatic arguments between Tan and Xu. The angst and misunderstandings will be resolved soon. Xu can’t tell her his plans and she won’t bother him for now in order to properly grieve. Hopefully tomorrow’s eps will see some sweet scenes between them. I was honestly so nervous going into today’s eps because the writers could have easily messed this plotline up badly by overdoing things, but I think this was the perfect amount of angst, plotline moving forward, and keeping me engaged the whole time.
I love that Jiang Xu knows her so well now to know she went home, finding her there but not appearing because he knows she doesn’t want to see him and needs her space right now from him. Asking for Minmin and Yunyi to comfort her and keep her company. He is so thoughtful, I don’t even blame him for not telling her his plans. He’s just quietly protecting her and guarding outside. My heart. The girlfriends all know how much he has done for Ming Tan. She will know soon as well.
I love this show so much. Bao Shangen was PHENOMENAL in these two episodes. Her acting made me cry multiple times. The scene where she cried in the prison was heart wrenching. You can tell BSE gave it her all. The scene where she went home to wait for her dad’s spirit to return. So good.
As I’m rewatching, I’m noticing more details I missed on first watch. In ep 10, Suxin mentioned that Ming Tan was born premature, explaining why she’s weak and more prone to her ailments/not as strong as the normal person. Kind of explains some of the clumsiness and damsel in distress. I’m liking the little details that continue to piece together more of the characters.
Another thing I love so far is the dynamic between Ming Tan and Yunyi. Yunyi sees herself as a servant hence why she so easily accepted the faux concubine position. She does not think for herself or ever wanted anything for herself and truly lives for her masters only. I love that Ming Tan told her that she can be her own person and that eventually, Ming Tan will also let her maids go live their lives whenever they are ready. She wants the same for Yunyi. I want to see their friendship blossom! And also Yunyi’s love story with ShuEr.
I’m so impressed by Bao Shangen’s crying scenes. I’m also impressed by how absolutely wrecked Song Weilong looks when Jiang Xu sees that Ming Tan is hurting. I will go down with this ship.
I may be totally off here, but I think the Emperor and Jiang Xu have a hand in maybe a staged death? To lure out…
Oh thank you so much for the clarification! I think we are on to something here. I really don’t think it will drag on because show can’t stay serious for very long so far. Interested to see what the true climax will be if this is just halfway through the drama.
At first I thought her godparents love her but since the wedding until ep 15 Im convinced they didn'tI cant blame…
Fully agree with you. I empathize with her, but truly hope the misunderstanding doesn’t drag on for too long. Maybe after the 10 days? Wishful thinking.

I also love badass Yunyi. She is adorable and I want more scenes of her with Ming Tan as they develop their friendship!
