Such dramas still exist, sure, like the korean adaption True Beauty, and sure it might be toxic because of society’s beauty standards but at least I don’t believe it’s sexist :/ from what I see at least, mairu is simply trying to find herself, and if she doesn’t wanna be who she was before, I don’t see why she shouldn’t change herself if that’s what she really wants to do. Is that a little clear? I feel like I didn’t specify when I said this isn’t sexist lol, it got nothing to do with gender. Plus, are we gonna pretend we haven’t looked for looks in a person before? Girls typically like handsome guys, and don’t pay attention to the average guy until he changes his appearance. I haven’t seen many dramas that show the gender roles switched, but you do see a lot of this irl. So yea... this problem goes both ways. It doesn’t just happen to females.
